just for the record, I come from a long line of private property rights and limited government advocates and so I am admittedly biased in favor of those rights.
I am an advocate for those causes as well. However, I really don't see how that applies here. This was an extraordinary situation - it wasn't like Big Bear was wanting to take the land so they could give it to a developer to build a new casino. The cops were dealing with a deadly threat. And I imagine the owner will be fully compensated for the structure and loss of rental income. If anything, they might be better off in this situation - they won't have a bullet-riddled cabin with the specter of Dorner associated with it. They can build a new one now.
In teh 900 post monster thread teh night this all went down, somewhere in there is a post linking to info about the property.
The cabins had been left to neglect at one point and the owners bought and were trying to renovate and restore them.
There was more work to be done, but the cabins were usable at the time of Dorner and his appearance thereat.
IF things go well, they will be much better off and able to do a rebuild.
If things go like they do here, some environut will find a rare fungus that needs to be protected and all the cabins will be torn down.
[Here it is a frog that they use as an excuse.]
For clarification..when I say ‘property rights’ , I am not just describing ‘real estate’. Private property means your income, your personal property, your guns, etc.
In this instance however, I was concerned with the police torching private property , as in real estate, as a first option after the dude holed up there. Also concerned if the police deliberately burned the perp out without any effort at due process. We might just have to agree to disagree until the facts are known (if they ever truly ARE known).
I have and will continue to have my opinions verified, challenged, changed and shaped by my fellow FReeper Patriots and that is why I love this place!
You have a vivid imagination.
