Dorner manhunt: Charred human remains found in burned cabin
Los Angeles Times ^ | Feb. 13, 2013 | Andrew Blankstein & others

Charred human remains have been found in the burned cabin where police believe fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner was holed up after trading gunfire with law enforcement, authorities said.

If the body is identified to be Dorner’s, the standoff would end a weeklong manhunt for the ex-LAPD officer and Navy Reserve lieutenant who is believed to be responsible for a string of revenge-fueled shootings following his firing by the Los Angeles Police Department several years ago. Four people have died, allegedly at Dorner’s hands.

I think what this tells you is that the LAPD has to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find police recruits and then pay them for years and then find out at times like this just how bad they really are.

If any of those 6 return to active duty then LAPD really is desperate.

What's interesting is that these 6 will have to go through the same administrative process that Dorner did when he lost his job.

Will some of these 6 also morph into Dorners if they lose their jobs too. Will they also be crying corruption and writing manifestos like Dorner.

For the record, I think the guy was a total psychopath and a murderer but he still deserved his day in court...

You think he was a 'psychopath' and a 'murderer' who had threatened to continue killing but you're upset the police treated him roughly. I understand.

Really.

Here are the times and what I tweeted(just went back and wrote it all down) Keep in mind time for typing and that this was after Dorner had holed up in the cabin and the shoot out in the street.

4:26 pm orders heard given not to fire on house unless something seen coming from house
4:29 cops say they have plenty of help up here, no more officers needed
5:00 reports of checking missing person report and possible hostages
5:57 heard them say they were going to the ‘burn plan’.
6:15 report of possible gas coming ‘from the house’
6:17 ‘burners deployed’ and ‘we have fire’
6:20 called for fire engines
6:21 shots fired from inside house
6:23 ammo exploding

Those are times and contents of my tweets while listening to the scanner for those interested. I also lost scanner feed for a time before all of this came in loud and clear.

Why would a person open fire on uniformed police officers knowing full well he is surrounded and helicopters are flying overhead?

People try to kill themselves by shooting at cops all the time. They even have a phrase for it. It's called "Suicide by cop." Sometimes the person attempting this is successful other times not.

Police are trained to deal with situations like this.

They also deal with barricade situations as well and the perp usually walks out with his life.

Police are taught from the academy to use non lethal force at ALL TIMES. Now, I understand that in the heat of a gun fight the criminal usually ends up dead. It is the natural outcome. However, when you have someone cornered the SOP is to wait them out. Whether they wish to die or not. Wait long enough and they sometimes kill themselves. Most of the time they give up or give out.

In this case, the police were dealing with a barricade situation. The police chose to burn the cabin down. In essence, they chose to act as a lynch mob exacting vigilante justice. Period.

What I see there is essentially the police press release regurgitated by KTLA.

The same KTLA who didn’t gather their own news because the police denied them the ability to have a news chopper within 5 miles of the scene.

It’s a bit like only hearing from one of the kids involved in a fist-fight.

The reported continuous barrage of gunfire is at odds with the scanner traffic.

It’s also at odds with how much ammo a man on the run can physically carry, isn’t it?

But don’t let that stop you from believing every word your betters say...

I believe the rule of law applies to the POLICE as well as the offender.

Really.

Period.

Black and White.

Unwavering.

Without a question.

I'll bet you $5 they are exonerated, re-instated and ultimately promoted.

Maybe not all 6, but at least 4...

Perhaps you also believe police should try to shoot the gun out of the hands of pyschotic murderers as well, like Chuck Norris, instead of aiming for center mass?

People try to kill themselves by shooting at cops all the time.

Many times they are successful, aren't they. Shooting at ANYONE and thinking they will not return fire is foolish.

They also deal with barricade situations as well and the perp usually walks out with his life.

Rarely are police confronted with a psychopathic killer like Dorner.

Wait long enough and they sometimes kill themselves

Or kill another innocent person. Why take a chance?

Um, did they aim the flaming teargas canisters at Dorner's gun or his "center mass?" When the police said they wanted to burn this mother efer down, they were referring to Dorner and NOT the cabin?

Now you have me confused...

Rarely are police confronted with a psychopathic killer like Dorner.

Typically, someone holed up in a house, cabin, apartment pointing a gun at fifty something cops isn't in his right mind anyway.

Dorner may have wanted to die. That may have been his plan all along. The police are supposed to try to prevent that from happening AT ALL COSTS regardless of what he did previously.

It is the RULE OF LAW. Period.

Just admit you are for a lawless vigilante style of justice and I will leave you be. Clearly you don't care about the rule of law.

Good job adding things up. I hadn’t thought of that angle. Hopefully they will remember what happend to Dorner when/if that time comes.

On the other hand, they could have called on Mason Storm to subdue Dorner with Aikido, with Dan Williams standing by to 'book em'.

The guy was a murderous nut, a threat to police and civilians alike, who refused to give himself up.

He's dead now, and who knows how many other innocent people aren't.

I'm totally OK with that.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Better hope the police don't deem you a dangerous threat and decide to burn you to death.

Typically, someone holed up in a house, cabin, apartment pointing a gun at fifty something cops isn't in his right mind anyway.

Typically they haven't ambushed a former cops daughter and fiance and killed a couple of other cops. Nor have they written a manifesto describing their plans to wage war on law enforcement.

Just admit you could care less how many innocent people the psychopath killed or would have killed. You seem to have much in common with Dormer.

IT DOESN'T FRIGGIN MATTER WHAT HE DID PRIOR!!!!

The police are not above the law. PERIOD.

They don't get to play vigilante whenever they feel like it (though I understand those thoughts).

By YOUR logic, those two women that were ambushed by the police and nearly killed should be able to go on a cop shooting spree of their own!

Seriously.
