Thing is in the old days a picked on scrawny kid might get a lick or two in. Now with growth hormones in milk some 15 year olds have the body of a full grown man. Is closer to a prison beat down.

Ah yeah... sometimes it takes a whack to teach a punk it’s wiser for him to curb his rage rather than keep stoking it.

If he had been bullied because he was suspected of being gay, that would have been featured prominently in the story, so that wasn't it.

I don't know anything about that part of Pennsylvania but the absence of information about the attackers, given the methods of the media, makes one suspect that race was a motive.

Well cheese louise, they could still dance around the race issue... unless it’s one of those blatantly black names.

We got our kids karate lessons. It at least gave them confidence. Let the bullies see them break a wooden board in two with their barefeet!

Why aren’t the growth hormones helping the scrawny kid too?

Bullies and bad academics may have been a problem in the past, but it was LESS of a problem when the spirit of the school brought God into it, and was less indulgent of general misbehavior.

Nonsense. At one time the bad kids were sent to reform schools. They were removed from the general population, a practical solution. Nowadays, the modern day psychologists and sociologists preach inclusion in the belief hanging around good people will make them good. This is not practical. America has lost its way in pragmatism.

That *TOO* but definitely not exclusively. If the same misbehavior today led to reform schools as in yesteryear, half the class would be in reform schools.

A quote from Tolstoy may not be a good example. He was strongly influenced by the guy who more than any other of his time screwed around with how children are viewed.

“Rousseau’s critique of modern civilization and his belief in the inherent
goodness of untutored nature left a deep imprint on Tolstoy’s art and
thought. His celebration of the “noble savage” in his fiction, from The
Cossacks (1863) to Hadji-Murat (1904), as well as much of his later
assault against the injustices of the state, the institution of serfdom, the
Russian Orthodox Church, modern medicine, education, marriage, and
sexual mores all derive, in part, from Rousseau’s intellectual influence.”

Rice and beans

Seems to me putting a kid in a coma is a line crossed that was never done. I don’t know.

In “The Bells of St. Mary’s”, indicative of the times, the principal, horrified by the bullying, determined to stop it, listened to the advice of the man on the premises (without letting him know). she knew she needed insight into boys’ subculture.

She learned the art of boxing’ clandestinely taught it to the bullied (fatherless) child and secretively cheered him on in his next fight.

End of problem.

Getting kids to box was a fairly common approach back then. In many cases afterwards, they would actually become friends.

Not holding parents responsible for this kind of violence is a big part of the problem. A form of dereliction perhaps by design to further break down the role of the family.

I’m still waiting for a public comment by the male individual that spawned Adam Lanza — a.k.a. “his father”.

y high schoolers would come into the classroom pushing each other. It startled me but they were used to it. They seemed huge and powerful.

I said, “hey don’t you guys have some kind of boxig program where you can do that on your own time, away from us civilized people?”

“Oh, but, M. Crabtree”, in their best Eddie Haskell, “boxing is considered brutal and violent”.

I told this to a colleague later on. She, the Classics teacher, said, “well, do they know you’re Irish?”.

Hmm. That was a new one.

I brought the flyers on the wrestling program and treated them like gentlemen. by the end of the year they were opening doors, jumping up to retrieve fallen erasers, cleaning the board and sometimes even arriving in dark sunglasses acting like secret service. this mixed in with their usual animalistic disruptive nasty behavior they fight hard to eradicate.

Tehy’re hard-wired to please and to figure out how to get ahead AND how to please girls.

Liberals and the DEA don’t figure out that people do not fundamentally change.

Demographics (see tagline) and the same Hippie Commies who dropped acid and dodged the draft are now Federal judges, Cabinet members, ACLU attorneys or CEOs.

The bullies are just following Darwinism as taught in schools, survival of the fittest, you know, the liberal’s and socialists like Hitler believe only the strongest shall survive, the weak, the meek, and those with birth defects deserve to die! This is not sarcasm, the elites truly believe this, God help us all!

Bailey is my cousins grandson.
Yes, it was 2 black kids.
Makes me wonder, this happened just after Jaime Fox happily said, “he gets to kill white people.”
From what I’ve read others leaving the movie theatre are saying and feeling the same way.
