The total number of people on welfare are about the same around 1.7 million blacks and around 1.8 million whites. Total population wise there are more blacks on welfare around 4%. Whites are around 1% if you do it per population size. However you want to look at it 1.8>1.7.
People like to throw out that there are more blacks on welfare which only applies to the percentages. Keep in mind that a lot of people only stay on welfare a couple of years then get off it. I have a family member who was on welfare because of a serious accident between jobs and benifits ran out.
It is not possible to get any true figures because they include such things as social security, military retirement, disability, etc, in their figures. Some of these are not “free” money but earned.
If we are going strictly welfare there are 4.8 million. If you add the black/white numbers this is 3.5 million total. Hispanics, Asians and others make up the balance.
Welfare spending not including foodstamps=$131.9 billion.
Bottom line, Don’t believe the hype.
Figures should be 1.8 blacks 1.7 whites for 2012.
My point still stands, there are more black both as a percentage and in raw numbers than whites. Now, when you break it down to demographics, the percentage of the black population on welfare (as considered in their demographic) is huge compared to whites.
