Just my two cents.

I’m not a Catholic. I’ve been a life-long Lutheran with pastors in the family. The very good pastors are dedicated to their church. They are guided by doing God’s will and leading God’s people.

That said, I believe that Pope Benedict is a good person, also trying to do God’s will and trying to lead God’s people. Pope Benedict’s health has not been good. My guess is that his doctor’s have told him that if he doesn’t scale back his activities, he will suffer a major health crisis (heart attack, stroke, death, whatever), sooner rather than later. With Lent starting this week, he will be called on to do so very much and that will add to the possibility of a major health crisis. I’m sure the Pope realizes that his hospitalization or death will draw attention away from Lent and Holy Week and he knows the focus now should be on Christ’s resurrection, not on the Pope’s health. I think he’s doing a very unselfish act for the good of his church.

“I’ve been a life-long Lutheran with pastors in the family”

Just curious. Why would you want to be “catholc-light” when you can be the real thing. Lutherans services are almost identical to a Catholic mass. The fullness of the christian faith can only be found in the Catholic Church. My RCIA leader was a former Lutheran who converted to the Catholic faith. The deacon in my church used to be Lutheran.

I appreciate your remarks. I was just telling redgolum that Lutheran friends that I know from the pro-life movement, are saying how they respect Benedict and how much they are praying for us, that we get another good one.
