They waited until the truck passed by, then opened fire from behind without any warning whatsoever.
This sounds like attempted murder to me and it seems to me like you're making every attempt to absolve them of their actions instead of applying the very same standard to them that you are to Dorner.

The cops that fired on the newspaper’s delivery truck failed to follow some commonsense procedures, like keeping their distance and calling for backup and get a dozen cars to surround this truck.
This is really a sad state of affairs! Cops shoot wrong drivers in wrong color Pickup, wrong gender??? They’re under stress. Well I’m sorry for them! Give them their baby bottle and send them to bed!!!

Or, are you saying all seven cops were merely firing warning shots?
That is the very definition of disobeying the 6th commandment: "Thou shalt DO NO MURDER FROM A HIDDEN PLACE".
An AMBUSH is the definitive "hidden place", and these cops WAITED until the ladies' truck had PASSED, then opened fire.
That defines malice AFORETHOUGHT, btw.

They need to be in prison.
And since they were ready to kill innocent people, depriving them of their civil liberties without cause, I think that the cops should be tossed into a super-max prison without a trial (speedy or otherwise), the population clearly told that their new residents were LAPD, and then we should allow the LAPD officers to find out what happens when they’re just another gang on the street.
Because that’s all the consideration they were going to give these women, the man, the residents of Big Bear, etc.
So the cops SAW the front AND side of the vehicle and did not see TWO bodies in it? I’ll buy (not really) they could have ‘misidentified’ “A” driver in the right color/make model truck...but how does someone supposedly paying attention miss all that and two people of the wrong size, color and gender?

The actual actions taken by both Dorner and these seven cops are identical and the only difference is the final outcome.
In both cases, Dorner and these seven cops opened fire without warning with the intention of killing the occupants of the vehicles.
The only difference is that Dorner succeeded with his intentions and these cops failed. Thus, Dorner is a cold-blooded murderer and these cops are cold-blooded attempted-murderers.
I am saying these cops are unprofessional jack asses and should be relieved, and I am saying the Sheriff should be relieved as well.
They have to be held accountable.
They should get jail time if a cogent case of events and forethought can be proven.
At minimum they should be relieved and held liable in civil court.
That said, you seem to have a hard on for the cops over Dornan, who is an avowed active murderer and has pledged to continue to murder.

Per the article one of the occupants was in the back seat handing the papers up to the driver. So I will conceded that they may indeed have only seen the driver. But that is ALL I will give them. They still could not possibly have seen enough to warrant their actions.
No verbal commands?
No identifying the occupant before going postal on them?

Didn’t notice the newspapers being tossed out each time the truck slowed down? (They MUST have been watching the driver with great interest...or they should have been).
Also per the article: they shot the crap out of the whole neighborhood. There are bullet holes in houses. A few other cars were shot up - some to the point of being unusable due to tire damage or punctured radiators, etc.
Sounds like a bunch of idiots to me.
Maybe with such crappy judgement it is a good thing they can’t aim worth a damn.
It is a lucky thing that no one else was injured.
