Sequestration would leave the Air Force with untrained people, a lack of equipment and be "devastating" to the service, officials said Feb. 7.
The warning echoes what Department of Defense officials have stated for months about across-the-board defense cuts, in addition to an ongoing continuing resolution.
"Now that we're staring at that possibility in less than a month, I can tell you, they were right," said Air Force Vice Chief of Staff, Gen. Larry Spencer, during a media roundtable at the Pentagon.
The meeting was aimed at discussing the toll that ongoing fiscal insecurity and looming sequestration are taking on the force.
"We understand the national imperative of economic strength and getting the fiscal house in order," said Acting Under Secretary of the Air Force Dr. Jamie Morin. "And we recognize that the Air Force is not going to be exempt from the sort of budgetary austerity that is a part of a balanced approach to getting the national fiscal house in order."
Although Air Force leaders have already taken steps to meet budgetary reductions, the impacts that will occur from sequestration put the service at risk.
"Those cuts from sequestration, as has been said over and over again, are going to be devastating; they're going to be dangerous," Morin said.

No wonder military suicides are high; Commander-In-Chief 0bama shows them how much he thinks of them by ALWAYS holding the military HOSTAGE in exchange for wanting to keep spending America into an irrecoverable bankruptcy. It’s a ‘let me keep spending, OR ELSE THE MILITARY GETS IT’ approach. 0bama has NO moral compass whatsoever.. Nothing is off limits to him. Nothing is sacred. Dangerous man, let alone president.
Need better managers. They have plenty on money.
They’re basically going to be at 2008 budget levels. Deal with it.
The one clearly-defined role of the federal government: defense, and they are leaving it to rot on the vine.
Leftists make me sick.
Yep. Let’s concentrate on ourselves instead of our rich allies.
What’s interesting is that none of the articles I read about sequestration pin the blame on Obama.
I’m thinking suicides are high because we’ve been at war for 12 years. I wonder how many deployments some have done? How many marriages ruined? How many children’s birthdays have been missed? This nation building crap needs to stop. These Islamic savages aren’t worth s**t.
Any worse than the faggotization of the military? I doubt it.
Frankly at this point, I no longer even give a damn. If the concern is about funding, let me first hear that none of it goes to “sensitivity training” and pro-homosexual enlisting drives.
Fire some Generals and find people who can manage the resources better.
After spending 24 years in an AF uniform, I can testify that the military does waste a lot of money, but much of it is due to insane rules by the Congress. If you find a way to cut costs for any given year, you are punished by making the lower cost your new baseline. Those that find ways to spend every penny end up with fully funded budgets for the following year. That's why every base ends up with the Group or Wing taking up all the unspent finds from all the units at years end and basically holds an auction to see who can do the necessary paperwork to spend what's left - if any is left, the base suffers because they didn't spend all they had.
I’ve considered that too.. But if Reagan was president do you think the suicide rate would be at the same level? (I know, we are so detached and removed from a man of the caliber of Reagan that it’s hard to relate to the ‘old America’ now). I’m going to have to pin this on having the wrong CIC overseeing the troops, AND TURNING HIS BACK ON THEM AT EVERY TURN... And threatening to withhold their pay, etc.. Abandoning SEALs to die, etc.. The GAY agenda, females in combat, etc.. Females in submarines, announced withdrawal dates in Afghan/Iraq, etc.. ROE (Can’t fire unless fired upon) which cripple/KILL our soldiers, etc..
I agree that it most likely is numerous factors. I’m just tired of our troops dying in some dump.
‘some dump’ is a noble cause if there’s a ‘war on terror’. But 0bama has changed that, right? So then, it’s just ‘some dump’ now. It’s the cowardly narrative that destroys the mission that destroys the soldier.
Agreed. Fags at the top, demoralized troops at the bottom. Money won’t change that.
The current Administration needs an even stronger Air Force and is using it heavily. I’m very much against cutting defense, but Democrats are bluffing. Let ‘em cut regulatory spending, social work, public education and other wastes.
Agreed. I unfairly nitpicked a small part of your first post. Mea culpa.
About twenty years ago....while I still wore the AF uniform....I watched a base prepare a listing for left-over funds...as early as July. The emphasis by the assembled group, with the wing-commander’s blessing...was to put the massive amount of funding toward the barracks and single-guy’s on base (carpeting, TV’s, improving recreation on base, etc). Everyone was in agreement, and the plan would be put into action in early September.
Well...during the month of August....this new senior enlisted adviser arrived on base, and suddenly talked the the wing commander into several projects. One was to add fifty state flag poles around the base, with state flags. The assembled team voiced concern over this, and tried to put a stop to the suggestion. Didn’t work. Around $100k was eventually put over into the flag pole episode. There were two or three other similar projects....like a entirely new “welcome to the base” stone sign, which ran up to around $50k in costs.
The only way to make an impression on people is to just give them a one-year operations budget, but tell them to stretch for two years.
Getting pretty tired of calling an 85 billion dollar cut when spending 4 trillion dollars “devastating”.
What a crock of Obama.
Cut a trillion $ out...that might be devastating
