RIVERSIDE - Three law enforcement helicopters flew above the Big Bear area tonight in search of the fired Los Angeles Police Department officer suspected in the revenge slayings of a college basketball coach and her finance in Irvine and the early morning ambush killing of a Riverside police officer. The truck belonging to Christopher Jordan Dorner was found burning just off a forest road in the area late today, authorities said.
All the areas where someone could have walked away from the truck were being searched by ground, Cindy Bachman of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said at a 9 p.m. news conference. "I'm not aware of any evidence found near the truck, nor am I aware of any explosives," Bachman said. Bachman said she was not aware of any vehicle having been stolen since the burned out truck was discovered.
Deputies have gone to about half of the 400 vacation homes in the area and there were no signs of forced entry at any of them, Bachman said.

He unloads the bike a couple of miles walking distance from where he sets fire to the the truck. Cops confused.
The girl killed was the daughter of one of his enemies on the police force. At least I thought she was.
You would think a manhunt for a cop killer would be garnering a little more attention, especially after the newspaper delivery folks were shot up..
I suppose anything is possible. I don’t think he is as prepared as his manifesto purports though. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been trying unsuccessfully to steal a boat, and still driving his own vehicle that he knew the police were looking for. I’m also pretty certain that his claim to have MANPADs was just blowing to smoke to try to dissuade them from tracking him with choppers. So I figure he is just winging it at this point.
Is it just me, or does the perp resemble a bulked-up LL Cool J of “NCIS LA?”
Shots may have been at Big Bear Asian ladies delivering papers...
Yes he does. I was trying to think of who reminded me off..
Or dogs...
Unless I’m mistake there is only one road out of Big Bear. If he wants to hike out of that area — good luck especially this time of year.
He will take refuge in the San Joachin Delta where there is over 1500 miles of inland waterways and hidden sloughs.
Uhhh, probably not.
There was snow on the ground where the truck was found. Now I am no expert tracker, but could possibly discern the difference between the tracks of a motorcycle and the tracks of a man (which were found leading from the truck).
Well played, Sir. It seems your years in school were NOT wasted.
Many would disagree, but - muy gracias, tu eres muy generoso.
Stashed the bike within walking distance - before he torched the truck...or...rode the bike over the truck tracks.
This guy is calculating - preplanned his whole vendetta down to the smallest detail. Definitely watching the TV reports of law enforcement wandering all over the mountain looking for him on foot and having a good chuckle.
JMHO
Just an observation: Dorner supposedly burned his truck? That doesn’t make sense.
He’s a deeply trained sniper who’d know better than to attract attention to himself with a flaming truck.
Just my humble opinion, I think he has an accomplice who burned the truck to accomplish two things:
1. Throw the cops off the scent and have them searching Big Bear when Dorner is really somewhere else.
2. Cover the forensic traces that would show the cops that someone other than Dorner was driving the truck. Thus reinforcing point 1.
See, I wondered why someone would burn their own truck and then I thought of the fact that car thieves burn cars to cover their forensic traces.
2+2=X (solve for X)
Yeah, he could have stashed a vehicle. I do think he probably planned for some contingency situations, but I read his manifesto, and the main impression I got was one of overconfidence, hubris, and bravado.
He may just have been laying it on very thick to psychologically intimidate the police, which is a good force multiplying strategy for him. Still, I get the feeling he is quite a narcissist and maybe he has bought into his own bull manure, thinking he could pull off more than he is capable of.
