Supermarket owners argue a pending federal food-labeling rule that stems from the new health care law would overburden thousands of grocers and convenience store owners -- to the tune of $1 billion in the first year alone. This is a huge profit point for our local organic *co-ops*. The food bar/deli area becomes a hang out with tables, there are several jobs tied to the service and, of course, it allows the market to reduce wastage.
These places all accept EBT, too.
As far as I can tell, the regular grocery stores that have prepared food already have nutritional labels posted. Packaged foods, like take and bake pizza, also have nutritional labels. Not sure how the by-the-pound items will be labeled. Sounds like a PITA.

With all the extra time more and more Americans are experiencing being un and underemployed we will have more time to read all these nutritionals./sad-sarc
This will tear most store-made products out of local stores - manufacturers will pick up the slack and absorb the costs with pre-pack.
