Rove's 'No More Akins' Group Outrages Conservatives (Free Republic Mentioned)
The Atlantic Wire ^ | 2/4/13 | ELSPETH REEVE

Posted on 02/06/2013 5:13:47 PM PST by jimbo123

Karl Rove's American Crossroads has started a new group to make sure the 2014 Senate races produce zero Todd Akins. But it turns out some conservatives like Rove less than Akin.

-snip-

The Senate Conservatives Fund's Matt Hoskins told Politico the Crossroads group was the "Conservative Defeat Project." Free Republic posters mocked "Tokyo Rove." On Breitbart.com, Ben Shapiro called Rove and his cohorts, "The Bush insider team that helped lead to the rise of Barack Obama." RedState editor Erick Erickson said the Conservative Victory Project was sure to pick losers. "I dare say any candidate who gets this group’s support should be targeted for destruction by the conservative movement." Erickson wrote. "They’ve made it really easy not to figure out who the terrible candidates will be in 2014." In another post at RedState, Daniel Horowitz warned of an enemy within under the headline "The Snakes in the GOP Grass":

I am saying that anyone stupid enough to tank a person with his vote record over an asinine comment deserves every ounce of the pain they get for their efforts.

Unfortunately the rest of us suffer for it as well. You coulda had him in there, chastised. silent and solidly voting conservative, as his record showed he would.

Instead, people WILLINGLY got on board the ‘help GOP kill off conservatism’ train and now they haZ a sad because the train pulled into the station.

Bummer huh?

So we should do what? repeat their stupidity? Sorry. They were wrong. Go ask them again if tanking the conservative was a good idea. Bet they think differently. See what happens when you act like a lib and back libs? You lose.

Good to see you Lake. I knew this thread would bring out the GOP shills. And here you are.

Rove should have backed Palin’s female candidate, and we would have won the seat.

Rove was on Hannity's show last night... he said he DID wholeheartedly support Sarah Palin's candidate (forgot her name) in the MO GOP primary.

Well, I won’t go as far as Rove, but I do think we conservatives need to do a better job vetting our candidates. Akin, Angle, Christine O’Donnell - these were all first-class political train wrecks.

I agree.

If that is so, he has hidden it well for more than a year.

I’m skeptical.

Sorry Norm, the guy was a total ass in what he said and how he played it. He won the primary by splitting the two tea party candidates with liberal money and appealing to their vote (and you call yourself principled....meh).

He was asked to drop out by lots of great conservativesw, people you claim to admire and support, yet he stubbornly held his ground when it was obvious he couldn't win and should have yielded his position to a conservative who could.

He was the one at fault, not the people who asked him to drop out. That you can't see Akin was a stubborn ego driven fool who all by himself let the dems take a very precious senate seat, one that was literally handed to us doesn't reflect well on you.

I didn’t vote for Romney in the primary. I wouldn’t have voted for Akin in the primary either.

It's what I heard last night... Steelman is her name, right? Rove said he did not like Akin as the candidate - he preferred Steelman. But once Akin won the primary, American Crossroads GPS gave him several million dollars to try to help Akin win vs McCaskell.

The rest is history, thanks to Akin's beyond-stupid comments...

A stubborn fool with a 97$ conservative voting record. That you found unacceptable.

A Mass liberal with no tracable conservatism in his record? Those in your camp trashed everyone in sight to get him into office and refuse to admit your error.

“MY” principles are not the problem here. Nor is the reflection thereof. But just keep making excuses for the problem of the GOP and the morons that lap up their brilliance. There are plenty of Freepers who claim the same unsupportable nonsense as you do. So your audience surely approves.

Case closed. Norm is an idiot.......wins Reagan's "shoot himself in the foot" award.

The RINO-Way has failed to deliver.

It is sunset time for the RINOs, and as RINOs like Rove have shown, they will still snort and bellow long after sunset.

Just as Big Government is not part of the solution, but IS the problem, so too are the goals of the RINOs for those of us who want Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

The present sorry state of RINO Leaders such as the Esteemed Sobber of The House John “Doormat” Boehner is encapsulated in the Congressional RINO Mantra: “ We have to find a Bipartisan Compromise that will pass both Houses, and that Obama will sign.”

This Congressional RINO Mantra is directly taken from The Buckley Rule which states: “Support the most Conservative Candidate that can win.”

IOW, the assumption of what is good or bad is not a factor for the Country or the GOP. The assumption is that one can discern what will be accepted by others is something that can be known before it is tried.

Thus, Obama or Reid can immobilize the RINO dominated US House of Representatives by just saying “NO” at a press conference to any idea that a RINO might propose.

The result is that only 3 people are needed to manage the US Federal Government: Senate, House and White House Leaders. Currently that is Reid, Boehner and Jarrett, respectively.

Hence, the RINOs have insured that the US Federal Government will not be good for America.

The RINOs have made it very easy for the Democrats to grind America to a halt.

By rejecting the RINOs’ Buckley Rule, the GOP will open the Party to Candidates that are good for the Party.

By rejecting the Congressional RINO Mantra, the US Congress will be open to political action that will override the current 3 leader ‘stall, delay and deny’ political nightmare.

It is pointless to blame the Communists and Socialists in the US Federal Government, because they are just doing what Communists and Socialists do best: regulate, Control and DESTROY!

Between now and the National Election in 2014, the only obstacle that needs to be overcome is the RINO control of the Republican Party.

GAME ON RINO Karl “Turd Blossom” Rove, GAME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proudly fly your Gadsden flag, and attend TO TAKE OVER your local RINO Doormat Party Meetings!

_____________

Ponder this:

IMHO , the worst “Goal” assumption is contained in the “Buckley Rule:” Support the most Conservative Candidate WHO CAN WIN.

The Gop-Elite IN the Party chose Dole, McCain and Romney. All lost, and all were not clear about what it was that they were trying to CONSERVE.

If one is going to play Basketball, then there had better be a lot of air in the ball, AND NO LIBERAL PATCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The enlarged letters are for effect: People IN the Party are usually wrong about how people OUTSIDE the Party will vote.

Dole, McCain and Romney were supported by the powers that be in the GOP because they COULD win! You bet! When pigs fly!

_______

The second point is the “Me Too” mentality of the GOP Elites who want to compete for the Democrats pool of Big Government voters.

Hence, the GOP has moved so far to the left, that the bulk of the GOP is far to the left of JFK Democrats of 50 + years ago.

Without clear distinctions, the GOP will continue to be the fat kid “Big Tent” wanna-be Democrat that nobody will play with in the Schoolyard playground called The US Federal Government.
__________________

The last point is the “Inertia of Stupidity.”

Ignorance is when one has not learned something.

Stupidity is when one is mentally unable to learn something.

The GOP Elite try to lose big every 4 years - - - maybe they have learned that losing is a lot easier than winning?

If so, then WE are stupid for not learning that the Sun has already set on the RINO GOP Elite, the Buckley Rule and the RINO Congressional Mantra.

You have yet, after all these many flamewars, shown how I am wrong.

I don’t worship at the altar of Palin, Levin or anyone. They are most often right. But they are not perfect. It is a fact that Akin could have won. It is a fact he has a 90+% conservative voting record. It is a fact that the GOP and others ensured his defeat.

Likewise, many of the same people aided Romney in trashing conservatives, candidates and their supporters, to get him elected. First to the GOP nom, then to the Presidency.

As a result, history shows they failed. They abandoned and trashed conservatives, while claiming they are themselves conservatives.

Now, since the above is 100% supported by the facts and history, please continue draining the morality of your bladder in the wind and telling yourself it’s a warm spring shower. It’s sad, but fun to watch.

I agree that Rove did his best to savage O’Donnell. There’s little doubt in my mind he was trying to take revenge on her for bumping off Mike Castle during the primaries. Where I would disagree is in assessing her chances. She’d been trounced twice before running for Senate in Delaware (admittedly the first time being a write-in candidate), and made some fairly large and rookie mistakes even during the third campaign - the “I’m not a witch” ad, for example. I just don’t think a majority of the voters in deep blue Delaware were every going to be on board with her.

Just MHO, of course.

The reason Rove stepped all over Akin was because of the risk of the party getting tarred with Akin's image (of mental retardation). As it turns out, it looks like the party did end up getting tarred with the Akin brush.

I disagree. We are in a "chicken-and-the-egg" situation now. If Rove had kept his filthy hands off of that race, then we could just the wisdom of the situation by the results. But Rove TRASHED Akin in the media, as did all of his loyal servants, and the RNC pulled their monetary support from Akin so that he didn't have the resources to defend himself adequately. If Rove had shutup, and the RNC has continued to back him, perhaps Akin would have won. Given the mood of the electorate at the time and the nature of Akin's opponent (leftwing nutbag), my money is on Akin winning. But with the Dems running attack ads 24x7, various Republicans like Rove jumping on the anti-Akin bandwagon, and the RNC pulling funding, Akin's loss was GUARANTEED. Even loyal Republicans probably felt like they would be stupid to vote for him if his OWN PARTY abandoned him. The Dems also got the bonus of being able to say "See? Even his own party thinks he sucks!"

Oh please! You are saying that Akin was not adroit enough to avoid this trap on his own? If that’s true, He just wasn’t Senate material. What he was was a self-absorbed individual who was arrogant enough to stay in the race when he knew he was toast!

He lost because the GOP pulled its support and thus gave the edge to the Democrat.

You want a perfect candidate, funny, the GOP gave us Romney whose history is more flawed than one stupid interview given by Akin.

What was arrogant and selfish was the GOP pulling support from Akin then expecting Akin supporters to vote for a man who gave MA Romneycare.

I didn’t vote McCaskill and if I had lived in Missouri, I would have voted for Akin...

Then what are we arguing about? If you would have voted Akin, then you obviously see some value in having him in office vs. the leftwing nutbag Dem, regardless of whether Akin was an idiot or not. I've never tried to argue that Akin was an ideal candidate. I only ever argued that Akin was the candidate IN PLACE at the time of the election, and as such, he needed and deserved the support of the RNC and other Republicans as part of a larger strategy. Instead, they turned on him quickly, almost gleefully, and LED THE CHARGE to have him ousted. My advice to the RNC is this: for God's sake, let the Democrats do their own dirty work!

On a purely strategic basis, supporting Akin was the only logical thing for Republicans to do ONCE HE WON THE PRIMARY. If he was such a bad guy, then he never should have won that primary. Sure, the Rats played dirty pool, but they ALWAYS DO, and once that happened, our choice was to refuse to back Akin and have a leftwing nutbag Dem win, or back him full tilt and get a Republican in office, even if he was not the most ideal person. Guess which option Rove and company chose?

And, for final clarification, the idea of having Akin drop so we could get a replacement candidate in there was a losing proposition, as well. People see you do that and they say "Damn, what a messed up party the Republicans are." Going that route was the path of failure as well. The ONLY CHANCE at winning was to back Akin, for better or worse. At least, that's how conservatives should view it. Rove and his ilk are not concerned with promoting conservative ideals. They only want what power they can gain for themselves, and to promote whatever flavor-of-the-week progressive agenda is on the table at the moment.

“Bummer huh?”

Yeah, it was a bummer to loose the seat. Just like it was a bummer to loose the one in Indiana, and then back in 2010 the one’s in Nevada and Delaware, although Delaware was probably never going to happen anyway. All that said, these four “candidates” were rejected by ALL the voters in their respective states for valid reasons. You just can’t seem to grasp that concept no matter just how much you want to believe that, in YOUR VIEW, Akin was “a good conservative.” Akin didn’t loose because the GOPe/Rove trashed him. He lost because he didn’t have the innate intellect to know what not to say. He honestly believed what he said about rape! That comment set him apart as a person who held a view way, way outside the thinking of normal folks. He mightily pissed off all the women voters! No one else told him to make that comment. When he did, it was only natural for the party folks to try and convince him to drop out. If he had been an honorable man, he would have done so for the good of his country knowing that no matter how much effort he had expended, he was not going to be elected. As an outsider, I am pissed off because we, as a nation, needed McCaskill out. Now, thanks to Akin, she’s there for another six years. I am very conservative, but I am also a realist. Closet nut cases like Akin are the bane to the Conservatives. Unfortunately, the more you move either right or left, the greater chance there is for the Todd Akin’s to surface. Just look how the loony left has taken charge of the RAT Party! I am looking for solid conservatives, not nutcakes that embarrass us. BTW I was not in a position to “Tank” Akin. Unfortunately he “tanked” himself.

I understand that no one wants to admit their part in failure.
I understand that a bunch of people ignoring a 90+% voting record to give the GOP their way (reduce the number of conservatives in office/power) might make excuses when called on it.
I understand that as stupid as his statement was (very), people flocked like liberals to websites, and other media outlets to claim their 15 min of fame, forgetting/ignoring everything good he ever did, to get attention for themselves amid all the boy’s club backpatting that went on.
I understand that unlike Romney, this guy did actually have some good points worth putting in office.
I understand that we are in a 24/7 world where many if not most on the political right get their news on the net.
I understand as a result of modern reality, people in say, Alaska, or Uzbekistan can and do have a documented influence on the votes of people elsewhere.
I understand that because of that, each of us has a hand in political outcomes with every post we make.
I understand that groupthink adds up.

I also understand that people responsible for bad things...such as Akin’s GOP-tanked election, the loss of an easy win, the placement of a lifetime liberal at the head of the GOP ticket...all these things and many more, like to put the blame anywhere but on themselves and their hand in getting things to the current state of insanity.

Did Akin blow it? Not all by his lonesome. He could have recovered had not the DU wing of the political right gone out of their way to slice their own throats. Had the GOP not cut his funding and willingly given the seat to the dems. If you think that no one BUT him had any responsibility in the clusterXXXX that followed...that all the people who fanned the fire into some media driven orgasmic religious frenzy were somehow innocent bystanders to a self-immolation, I just don’t know what to tell you.
