For those who don't know, Bonhoeffer was held for two years in a Nazi concentration camp then exected by hanging in 1945.

I just finished reading this book a couple of weeks ago. I had tears in my eyes reading the chapter about his engagement and just knowing that he would never get to marry the woman he loved.

Fantastic book...and really makes you think about your Christian beliefs.

He was executed on April 9. 1945 as was Wilhelm Canaris, the German Military Intelligence chief who had clashed too often with the Nazis. Sad and ironic that these men survived as long as they did only to be killed as the Third Reich was in it's death throes.
