The San Francisco collision had absolutely nothing to do with any seafloor change caused by a recent earthquake.
I should have been clearer, now that I see there was a lot of conspiratorial bulldada about the USS SF.
The earthquake/tsunami was in 2004, the USS SF was, among other things, remapping what had been a poorly mapped area before, looking for changes. What they ran into in 2005 had been suspected, but not charted on the charts they were using. This is why then ran into it at full speed, FD&H.
One crewman later remarked that they were relatively lucky, because not long before the collision they had been pulling major routine maintenance, and there were loose deck plates all over that could have turned into lethal Frisbees.
But as things happened, they had finished, secured everything, and were either eating in the mess or on watch.
