The second-ranking House Republican said Tuesday that he supports improving the federal background-check system for gun buyers but stopped short of endorsing universal checks on all weapon purchases.
The comments by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) came as two GOP lawmakers from suburban districts announced plans to co-sponsor legislation to make gun trafficking a federal crime for the first time. The moves signal potential openings for bipartisan compromise on gun control, a debate so far dominated by Democrats with little said or done by Republicans.
Cantor, giving the most specific comments on gun control by a GOP congressional leader since President Obama outlined his proposals in late January, told CNN in an interview that lawmakers could consider adopting a plan implemented by Virginia after the 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech. Since the shootings, the state has linked mental-health information to law enforcement databases used to conduct background checks for gun purchases.

Note to republican’ts: If you’re always playing defense and never pushing an offense, you’re losing all the time.
Now is the time to proudly fly your Gadsden Flags, ( I have the black background Gadsden too), and attend to take over your local RINO Cave-In Meetings.
I really like that!
Cantor is beginning to strike me as being an ULTRA WEENIE. . . .
That is a great idea!
Why should the proppressive regime be like a constrictor snake around liberty?
Hope you don’t mind but I did cut and paste your list and sent it to my Congressman and Senators headed by:
“JUST SAY NO,
......
Your list was right on target and covered it all.
!@#$ !@#$
I understand market demand influences price, but there comes a point where it is beyond ridiculous. Remember, they are in it for the money and that's about it in most cases. I'm not going to say that's a bad thing, just a reminder that they really aren't on our side in a lot of cases and I doubt we can say anything much different about manufacturers.
Sorry, I'm just real upset... not just at dumbo and his antics at the federal level, but I'm irritated at the panic buying, the gougers and hijackers... I was an idiot. I did not replenish my reloading supplies or ammunition because I just kept "waiting for things to stabilize and prices to go back to normal". So yea, I'm mostly pissed off at myself right now. I'm a collector and shooter so my hobby is dead right now and I'm not a happy camper.
that ends my foolish, whining rant
Cantor is a weak-sister (no offense to the ladies here).
He should be replaced as #2 in the House with Louie Gohmert from TX! Gohmert may talk a little slow but he has his head screwed on tight and doesn’t cotten to the liberal BS.
You have made the point, it will work if you don’t buy!
S&W went bankruupt in 1999 due to selling out to the US Justice Dept, but not because they rolled over due to poor legal counsel from Richard Freidman but because consumers punished them, not the NRA, Not the NSSF you and I told S&W to piss off.
I agree many in this industry are short sighted and rip off the public. There are many out there that are not like that and give them your business.
