Yes. That was it. I think that is what disturbs me more...not the truth, but being inhibited or prohibited from speaking the truth.

The truth of this (or any situation) might be bad enough, but it is far worse to realize that societal pressure has been brought to bear to the point where the truth cannot be spoken.

And even MORE disturbing is to realize that people are taking it on themselves, buying into it, policing themselves to the point they BELIEVE the non-truth, or the necessity for not recognizing the truth. It is a form of double-think.

Seeing a situation with your eyes. Reality. Then co-existing inside your own brain with no contradiction, the acceptance that what your eyes told you is not the truth, but something very different and contradictory.

It is Orwellian.

Wow, that's good. It's like when O’Brian was forcing Winston Smith not to just believe that 2 + 2 = 5, but to actually “see” that it does. To truly conquer a populace you have to destroy traditional modes of thought. It seems that large portions of our nation have reached that point. Orwell was a prophet.
