Let me give you a hint on how to control them. With policemen. Seriously. Enforce our laws. I don’t have the data together since I just tripped to it the other day. What am I referring to? How is it that New York, which has some very bad areas, has significantly less violent crime and a lower murder rate than Chicago or Philadelphia? It’s not the race of the citizens. It’s whether or not the police do their jobs. Apparently (and I am not in a place to back this up with the documentation and facts as above) police in NYC do their jobs - as in catch criminals and jail them. In Chicago and Philly, not so much. I’ve got a bunch of research to do (and in fact I’m going to get in contact with a fellow named John Lott shortly about the project) - but my theory is that when police departments don’t capture murderers, they murder again. We’ll see what the data says - the term of art to keep your eye on is something called the closure rate - the fraction of the offenders charged for crimes committed. Some cities I’ve looked at don’t charge anyone for 45% of the murders committed. That is wrong, and among the reasons that young black men keep on killing other young black men. The predators don’t get caught and punished. And yep, we put a lot of people in prison in this country. Based on what I know, almost all of them are guilty. Personally I’d legalize pot, and limit welfare to one child only (you get one mistake a lifetime). You’d likely call me cruel and racist. It’s just that I’m one of the 53% who are paying income taxes is all. And I have to pay for my own kids.
Boy do I hear you there. I actually know 2 policemen in NYC. They’ve been on the force for a little over 20 years. In under 20 years, they’ve seen a complete change in their policy. Where it was once okay to turn your head, you can no longer do that. It has turned into one of the safer Large cities.
On the other hand, Philadelphia is completely out of hand. Crime is so blatant there. Chicago is a bit different. Chicago is Midwest for crying out loud! There shouldn’t be crime there to the degree it exist! And it’s “Gun Free”!!! Meanwhile, I know many.... many people in Chicago. I spend a lot of time there myself. Every SINGLE person I know there carries. Legal or not. Why? Because their police force have shown them that they just do not care.
You are absolutely correct. True law enforcement can actually defeat a lot (not all) of this. It’s just not happening.
