NEW YORK, February 4, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) – New York City schools distributed 12,721 doses of the “Morning-After Pill” to students last year, according to documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. The 40 school-based “health centers” also performed thousands of injections of long-term contraception and implanted intrauterine devices (IUDs).
Under state law, schools do not need to obtain parental consent to dispense the drugs. The $2.7 million program has provided contraceptives to 22,400 teens as young as 14.
Last September, the district announced that the city Department of Health had distributed Plan B to 567 teenage girls, and another 580 received Reclipsen birth control. But the New York Post, which filed the FOIA request, discovered the program went far beyond what officials had previously admitted.
In new documents the district reveals it distributed 10,720 doses of “Plan B” in the 2010-11 school year, and 5,039 in 2009-10, the program's launch year.
The schools administered another 2,117 shots of the long-acting contraceptive Depo-Provera. Students also received hormone injections, or were implanted with the Nuva Ring or IUDs, in addition to receiving 10,462 packets of birth control.
The clinics – located in largely poor areas of the city – have parents and religious leaders up in arms.
“This was population control on blacks and Latinos without our knowledge,” said NYC Parents Union President Mona Davids, who is black.
Both Plan B and the IUD block fertilization, but may also work to prevent a newly conceived child from implanting in the uterine walls, resulting in a chemical abortion.
“What gives the mayor the right to decide, without adequate notice, to give our children drugs that will impact their bodies and their psyches?” Davids asked.
The powerful contraceptive and abortifacient drugs have been found to have a variety of negative side effects. For instance, Reclipsen’s side effects include depression, liver cancer, sudden blindness, heart attack, stroke, and hepatitis, while Arizona State University researchers have linked Depo-Provera to memory loss. The pill has been found to increase risk of blood clot.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn had called the New York City schools' policy “tragic and misguided” in a blog post in September.
“Studies show that increased availability of contraception fails to reduce rates of unintended pregnancy and abortion,” they noted.
A study published in December by a University of North Carolina professor found that widespread use of “emergency contraception” had no effect on pregnancy or abortion rates but “led to a statistically significant increase in STD rates.”
Despite the risks and evidence that dispensing contraceptives is not effective, some organizations continue to hold out contraception as a panacea for teenage sexual issues.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued a policy statement in November asking doctors, including school nurses, to promote the use of “emergency contraception” among sexually active teens.
Stating that “abstinence before marriage is the only sure way to avoid pregnancy and disease,” Cardinal Dolan and Bishop DiMarzio concluded, “The public schools would be better advised to promote what truly works rather than continuing to follow a failed experiment that will only lead to further problems for society and for young people.”
I can understand why some teachers might want to hand out Plan B pills. After all, they are with the children all day, I would assume that an underage child showing up pregnant would make the adults in thier lives prime suspects.
My radical left sister-in-law is heavily involved in this - and proud of it - as she posted on Facebook a few months ago. Sickening. This is why we don’t talk anymore.
This is outrageous!
I thought Obamacare covered this!
Thank you for your comments, Mrs. D - I am not very up to date on details of various kinds of contraception, so it sounds very likely that is what they meant, rather then the shots that stunt natural physical development of puberty.
But either way, it’s playing Hob with OTHER PEOPLES’ CHILDREN!
I am so angry and disgusted I can’t use polite language right now.
Exactly...
I found 2 trolls last week, one was even a moslem. I alerted mods. AFAIK both are still here. Maybe you have more pull.
This noob is a troll 100%.
Another lovely, elegant theory knocked down and trampled by a gang of brute facts.
I know it's counterintuitive, but let me tell you how that works:
So the physical effect of the contraceptive campaign (a few females physiologically impaired enough to avoid pregnancy) turns out to be trivial; but the social-behavioral effect is so profound it easily raises the number of girls who will expose themselves to sexual risk. Resulting in more untimely and improvident pregnancies.
Take Bronx, NY as an example. The first birth control clinics were established there about 100 years ago by Margaret Sanger and her devotees. At that time, the abortion rate was "an appalling 17 per 100 live births" (according to Emma Goldman, who, though she was a feminist/ anarchist, was indignant about it, because she saw it as evidence of the degradation of the working class.)
In the subsequent years, the Bronx has been flooded by the availability of contraception. It has been sold, given away, advocated, urged, mandated, and almost universally approved. And the result? Bronx is the county with the highest abortion rate in the United States (48% in 2011) and one of the highest rates of nonmarital childbearing (65.7% for 2009, the most recent statistic I could find.)
And ---oh, gee, who'd'a thunk it--- completely predictable soaring STD rates as well (Link).
Read it and weep.
"Free birth control is the one good thing about Obamacare. Less unwanted babies means less abortions, less demand on welfare, lower crime rate.
Birth control should be given away on street corners, it should be a mist in the air in high schools, it should be spiked in mountain dew and sunny delight... In 15 years wed live in a utopia.

You, SIR, are drinking some serious Kool-aid.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Just wow. Another one for BOTH lists.
I can just imagine what would happen if *I* got caught handing out prescription medication, like prescription strength ibuprofen, to the local neighborhood girls.
Why aren't these schools and the "adults" ( and I use the term loosely), held to the same standards?
Teacher gives a kid an aspirin or Tylenol and they’d probably fire their butt since they aren’t a nurse or doctor.
All about the money. Abortion and birth control are big money. The sooner they get them hooked, the sooner they’re in for abortions, or STD treatment. Keeps them in their Mercedes, their BMW’s, etc.
Thank you. Your comments are among the most educational of any on FR.
It’s not just money. It’s a Program. A program to reduce the population of those unwanted and to degrade the entire society so that there are no internal restraints, morals, families, convictions, strong characters, virtue, rational thinking or loyalties towards anything except the State.
I think he’s trying to get US to drink the Kool Aid. He’s a dealer...
A *f_cking utopia, all right. Are you channeling the preferences of sexually opportunistic males, by any chance? Nothing personal.I mean, I'm not looking for TMI. Sexually, about you, nothing personal.

Yep. I believe you nailed it.
Throwing birth control at young people is in effect, a license to go have more sex, with more people, at anytime. Am working at an ob/gyn clinic now for my training ... I’d say at least half who come in end up using NO forms of birth control, because the frequency of their activity cannot keep pace with their acquisition of the contraception. Also, always a “problem” with one form or another. They end up on the Pill which they NEVER take correctly ....and they end up prg WITH an STD or TWO, or THREE, or positive cervical cancer screenings every 6 months ... and condoms? Forget it. They don’t even bother half the time.
They will inform these kids about their STD’s like it’s just no big deal. “Oh, yeah ..you’ve got herpes. Yes, it’s permanent ...yes, but you will just have to take these pills and inform all your partners that you have it.” Good luck with that.
This is why the socialists put the ‘health’ centers in the schools - population control. There was no secret about it.
These city gimme girls did not mind them putting ‘free’ health care centers in their schools. First question they should ask is why isn’t whitey putting these “free” kill’em clinics in their schools?
Wait ‘til the gimme “diversity” girls get a load of what socialists mean by “universial” health care for grannie and they find out the true consequences of nanny nurse’s shortages and total control over their lives via health care.
If these people could read, they would not be putting American socialists anywhere near them or their children. But they are brainwashed by race and class slogans and being that racist and stupid promises victimhood.
Slave masters gave the slaves everything for free, but there was a heavy price to pay. Same with socialists. They demand the souls of the young people and blood and lives of the grandkids. I guess they missed the episode where Obammy ordered Christians to pay for abortion pills.
