Unfortunately, even Reagan was conned into boarding the open borders bandwagon. He also supported amnesty for illegal immigrants.
Incidentally, Paul, like all Libertarians, is equally unreliable on this issue.
Ronaldus Maximus was bringing Mexican farmworkers across the border to work harvests in the 1960s when he was governor of California. It was called the bracero program. His mentor in most things Republican, US Senator George Murphy urged him to do so. Therefore, Ronaldus Maximus (aka the oldest and the wisest or Der Alte) was not “conned” into anything. He did also support “amnesty” for “illegal” immigrants. What the GOP is missing today is his big spirit and sense of confidence in this country. It sometimes seems like only Reagan and Jack Kemp understood that being the Grinch that Stole Christmas is NOT good politics.
