yup, being one of the Sys-Ops there really was no other option...“the times i was laid off(twice from two places) i was not allowed back in my office(they emptied my desk and i picked up my stuff later) and was escorted out of the building by the head of security... they took my ID/Security badges etc and my accounts were all terminated while i was being out processed”
With technology today there is no other safe way for a company to do it (though the security escort is a shame because there is almost an implication of theft or other misconduct).
