Turkish police have arrested 11 people over the murder of an American woman who disappeared while visiting Istanbul last month, police and the local media reported Sunday.

"We have confirmed that she was murdered by way of impacts on her head," Istanbul police chief Huseyin Capkin told reporters on Sunday. "But we need to conclude the investigation before details emerge."
The Milliyet newspaper said she was also stabbed several times in her abdomen, but there was no sign of rape or theft and she was still wearing jewellery when police found her.

Hurriyet speculated that Sierra might have been tricked into trying to smuggle drugs into the United States, citing an anonymous retired US agent from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
But Capkin said there was no indication that she was involved in such a scheme. "She was a lonely wanderer," he said.

Three days after renting a room in Istanbul on Jan. 12, Sierra traveled to Amsterdam and Munich, Anatolia news agency quoted sources as saying. She returned to Turkey on Jan. 19.
Something in the milk *isn’t* clean.
Her “graffiti photography” cover story is starting to fall apart.
Very strange.
I haven’t been to Istanbul, but I have lived and traveled to Europe. You don’t need to go to Amsterdam to find Graffiti, traveling alone is stupid, and her hopping from Istanbul to continental Europe and back again makes no sense. Oh, and I take pictures and am a mom, too. I would check out her financial situation. Maybe she was naive or maybe this was pre-planned and went bad.
Her perfidy would have been "rewarded" even faster.
Sorry, I have no pity for this self-centered fool. Just for her children.
Courier-business. Flies into Istanbul, but barely stays a few days. Flies into Amsterdam for 24 hours. Flies into Munich for 72 hours. Flies back to Istanbul. Never been anywhere in Europe ever before. Spent $10k in less than two weeks.
Angle? Came into Istanbul pick up a drug load. Everything went ok. Carries a diamond load from Amsterdam to Munich. Then carries some bank checks from Munich back to Istanbul. Digested the final drug load to run back to the US, and something went wrong....was dying, and they simply cut her up to retrieve the bags that were unaffected. End of story.
Probably a thousand couriers carrying out these episodes every month. Most all are successful except for the trans-atlantic flights.
That is probably pretty darn close to what happened. The real open questions are whether the husband knew and whether the friend knew and that is why she canceled at the last minute? (It also isn’t cheap to just cancel a vacation.)
And 10k for 2 weeks and staying in a broke down hostel? I hope she ate really well, at least.

She worked part time in a chiropractors office and was studying for a bachelors degree at the College of Staten Island.
Wow. So they cut her open to retrieve the drugs after they killed her.
I’d bet her husband knew what was going on.
