The agency said she was found with a head wound and a blanket near her body. She was wearing jeans, a jumper and a jacket, and still had her earrings and a bracelet.

Make for one heckuva Thanksgiving.
“Foreign travel seems borderline insanity these days. Almost suicide...”
I would not say that...but its not like it was even 10 years ago. Americans traveling anywhere in the world have to recognize they are potential targets and use caution.

A woman colleague of mine lives in London and vacationed at a Turkish resort in September. She absolutely raved about it.
My middle daughter wanted to study a semester in Turkey in her Junior year. I told her “no way,” so she went to an excellent technical university in The Netherlands instead. I was greatly relieved.
There is something else to this story. A married woman who left her husband and children in NY to travel alone in Turkey?
There may be something else going on. I don’t know.
But she originally planned to go with a girlfriend. I saw an interview with the friend and she said she decided that she really couldn’t afford it and backed out. The dead woman had already made plans and wanted to go. She was in touch with her husband & sister & other family members several times a day, giving them her itinerary.
The side-trips to europe were already in the plans according to her friend, so not something she decided to do after getting to Turkey.
She was coming home a few days early because she missed her kids & wanted to surprise them.
It sounds very sad to me.
What the pic Joe?
Captions my man...captions for the clairvoyantly challenged.

I tend to agree. Married people, male or female, typically don’t just take off alone to new lands. They might go with others, usually a group, or go to visit family - but traveling alone to a foreign land simply doesn’t make sense...especially with young kids left behind.
God Bless and protect him - I know some folks who do missionary work and there are dangerous woods that hide vicious animals waiting for Christians to pass by. There is also a lot of spiritual satisfaction and their love of God and His Word makes the risks worthwhile to them.
Yes one more. How come you are a rude, obnoxious asshole?
Well I wish him a safe trip.
These days I would be reluctant to travel anywhere in that area especially with what’s happening in the middle east.
Doubt that. Forced prostitutes are typically girls still in their teens. And Turkey is full of Russian working girls there of their own free will.
She supposedly was an amateur photographer who went to Istanbul to take pictures. But she did not have a camera - all she took with her was an iPad and her smartphone. That doesn't sound like any photography bug I've ever met.
The FBI is saying that she met with known criminals when she first arrived in Istanbul and before she went to Amsterdam.
Her family had to raise money from local parishes to pay to have her body shipped back and to fly her husband there. Her busband is described as a "cash-strapped" bus driver and she had declared personal bankruptcy.
Her friend who supposedly cancelled her own trip apparently pulled out a couple of weeks ahead of time because the trip was too expensive. If they were staying in a hostel, the most expensive part of the trip was airfare - did the friend not even have tickets for that trip?
