China is poised to take over operational control of a strategic deep-water Pakistani seaport that could serve as a vital economic hub for Beijing and perhaps a key military outpost, according to officials.
The construction of the port, in the former fishing village of Gwadar in troubled Baluchistan province, was largely funded by China at a cost of about $200 million. It has been a commercial failure since it opened in 2007, because Pakistan never completed the road network to link the port to the rest of the country.
Chinese control of the port would give it a foothold in one of the worlds most strategic areas and could unsettle officials in Washington, who have been concerned about Beijings expanding regional influence.
The port on the Arabian Sea occupies a strategic location between South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. It lies near the Strait of Hormuz, gateway for about 20 percent of the world's oil.

Oh, to have a president with a set.
Encircling India.
Never mind that India’s getting hit on both sides from Islamists and Maoists.
The Paks are in for nasty surprise if they ever try to get this port back. The Chinos will claim that it is Chinese territory from the time of Emperor So Rong Sucka.
There is nothing valuable or useful in Pakistan. One can not be their friends or allies, nor is there anything to gain from pursuing long-term relations with them.
From whose viewpoint?
Location, location, location.
access to Afghanistan, interior of Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Indian Ocean, etc.
The Chinese admin seem to have a serious interest in waterways and ports.
They have also heavily invested in numerous large cargo conveyances, (largest in the world.)
I would really like to believe that their only purpose is the intent to ship ore.
And by no small co-incidence, they have the largest homosexual percentage of population compared to that of any other country.
I wonder what we can do to help them out? Do we have any secrets left we could give the chicoms to make their lives easier? Electronics? Software? Military secrets?
I just can’t stand when here they are trying hard to build themselves up and we aren’t giving them enough of a good old American helping hand! What he heck is obama doing slacking off on this??

I’m rooting for the chicapitalists.
Who are they, and against whom?
Maybe they are the ones that built those empty city’s that are waiting to be populated.
