Scandinavian social democracy has been praised as providing a healthy mix of capitalism and socialism combined in the famous “Third Way” model. Its built a compassionate, orderly and vibrant society. The small size and homogeneity of Scandinavian countries has been a reason the welfare state worked so well. But its gotten too expensive and while it will never be stingy, its just too much for a shrinking population to support at old levels of state outlays for it.
