The White House on Thursday warned Syria not to transfer weapons to Hizbullah, as tensions mounted following reported Israeli raids on a military research center and a weapons convoy.
"Syria should not further destabilize the region by transferring weaponry to Hizbullah," said Ben Rhodes, a US deputy national security advisor.
Syria on Thursday warned that it reserves the right to retaliate to what it says was an Israeli air strike on a military research center..., as it lodged a complaint with the United Nations.
The Syrian foreign ministry said Israel "and the states that protect it at the UN Security Council" are responsible for the air strike, and "affirms Syria's right to defend itself and its territory and sovereignty," the state news agency SANA reported.
The ministry called on "all the competent UN bodies to take the necessary steps given this grave Israeli violation, and to guarantee that it will not happen again."
Although Israel and Syria are technically still at war, the ministry's official complaint referred to the 1974 disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel, SANA said.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Iqbal Singha, commander of the UN Observer Disengagement Observer Force... and informed him of an official protest over the Israeli violation of the disengagement agreement of 1974," the ministry said.
Syria's ambassador to Beirut Ali Abdel Karim Ali, meanwhile, too stressed Syria'ss right to respond to "the Zionist aggression."
"The Israelis, and the United States behind them, along with their Arab and regional accomplices, realize that Syria, which defends its sovereignty and territory, may decide to respond by surprise to this aggression," Ali told Lebanese website Al-Ahad, which is close to Hizbullah.
"It is up to the competent powers to choose the appropriate answer, and to determine the means and the place," ...

Now I finally think of something to say: You mean, Syria’s going to blow up our chemical weapons depot, and attack our convoy of arms to Hizbollah?
Sounds like one of those Strongly Worded Letters.
Can a letter with stern language be far behind?
Israel must have really blown up something important for everyone to go hay wire like they are!
They went even further, and had an official USE stern language on the record. (shudder, tremble, bite fingernails)./s
The Syrians didn’t even have time to throw some suckling babes and their mothers in front of the incoming missiles.
I believe Syria has their hands full with the Rebels without threatening Israel.
That said: Is there a difference between handing over weapons to Hizballah and letting them fall into the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood Rebels?
Serious question. What is the difference?
The Muslim Brotherhood would have to fire missiles across the Golan and make them veer South, while Hizbollah would have to fire missiles across the Golan and due South. Or the MB could violate Jordanian air space to hit Israel, and we all know how fearsome Jordan is. They also could ship some to Egypt in case that chapter of MB is feeling frisky or wants to give Hamas some new toys. Only real difference.
Anyway, if Assad helps Hizbollah threaten Israel or threatens Israel himself, he gets help from Iran and Hizbollah fighting the rebels, so I suppose that’s what this is all about. Iran’s making angry chimp noises, too, so it adds up.
Israels mistake was not to use nukes.
Guessing Israel blew up a LOT of weapons and soldiers.
They have to save those for Cairo and Tehran....and maybe Brussels.
Be afraid, Syria, be very afraid...../sarc
Not to worry. The “competent UN bodies” are on their case. They’ll bring those evil Zionists to justice. Special Agent Maxwell Smart is giving it his personal, undivided attention.
This after shipping said weapons to Syrian “rebels” from Benghazi. The chutzpah of this crooked administration continues to dazzle.

The White House warns Syria? Or we'll do what? I doubt they're afraid of Hagel, Kerry or The One. Bibi might be another matter.
