Russia Concerned by Reports of Israeli Air Strike on Syria

MOSCOW, January 31 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow is “deeply concerned” over reports of Israeli air strikes on Syrian territory on Wednesday and is seeking confirmation of what could be a serious violation of the UN charter, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

Moscow said it is looking into reports that Israeli fighter jets carried out an air strike on a military research center near Damascus on Wednesday.

If the reports of “unprovoked strikes” hitting a sovereign country’s territory are confirmed, this would constitute a violation of fundamental United Nations principles, the Foreign Ministry said.

Such attacks are ”unacceptable, no matter where their motivations lie,” the Foreign Ministry added.

Syrian state media, citing the army’s general command, said the strikes killed at least two people. Western media reports said Israeli jets had bombed a convoy allegedly carrying weapons destined for the Shia militant group Hezbollah, which has previously fired rockets into Israel from Lebanon.

The Associated Press quoted an anonymous US official saying the convoy was carrying Russian-made Buk M-2 (NATO: SA-17) anti-aircraft missiles

Whether you like it or not, Russia has as much right to ally with the Syrians as the U.S. has to ally with the UAE. Ivan has a base at Tartus.

If Iran were to start bombing the UAE I imagine the U.S. would be concerned.

In Ezekiel 38 it mentions that the biblical “Gog” will lead the coalition of nations into battle on the mountains of Israel. It is in the early stages of this battle that God makes His presence known and supernaturally ends this great battle by destroying these invading forces led by Gog who is ruling over the land of MaGog. It is believed this is Russia.

“I will put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army...” (Ezekiel 38:4)

Russia has been involved in the ME as long as the US has been, and longer.

Russia has currently been promoting the stability theory, one that we used to promote. The theory of a stable sectarian, authoritarian leader is better than a "democracy", (read: mob rule quickly fundamentalist Islamic).

Russia is arming Syria to fight off Al Queda/Muslim Brotherhood ringers that will soon be backed by Turkey and the Turkish military (NATO proxy), directed by Obama.

This is a very difficult situation for Israel, their best result would be stability, which is already gone.

Isaiah 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away form being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
There is also a passage that implies that Egypt may get nuked in a battle also.

I like the way they put it “Israel attacks Syria”

not “Israel destroys convoy of missiles headed toward them”

Will it be done in a way that will assure everyone on the planet knows it was God that did it, or will it just look like a human victory?

Although we don't know the route of the convoy or the location of the strike, Lebanon is to the south of Syria and Turkey is to the north.

Israel doesn't usually make mistakes in intelligence and certainly knows north from south, so indications are that Syria may have been moving the missiles toward Israel.

Russia is really upset, because the Israelis nailed a convoy carrying Russian SA-17 “Grizzly” advanced surface to air missiles they were selling to either Syria or Hezbollah. I would hazard to guess that those missiles were COD, and the Russians hadn’t been paid yet. They go for about $70m a battery, so the Russians were set back some big bucks.

KGB Putin is unhappy because Israel destroyed a shipment of Russian arms for hizballah jihadist terrorists.

No kidding. These are not manpads. These are upgraded medium range SAMs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buk_missile_system

Terrorist organizations should not have these. I hope Russian advisers were killed.

I would guess you're right, one of Russia's largest economic ventures is arms sales.

"Arab spring democracy" will upset that apple cart.

Syria is losing control of the security of weapons depots in Syria that store Hezbollah weapons, so they are trying to move 'em to Lebanon to keep 'em out of the hands of the rebels, Russia agrees, Israel is endangered either way, so they act.

New reports are that it was far more important than SAMs.

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/164785#.UQrSR_KIjbI

The site allegedly attacked by Israel in Syria manufactured chemical and biological weapons, according to a report in Iraqi newspaper Azzaman that appears in London...

...The installation was badly damaged and there were numerous casualties. He said that about 3,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards were stationed at the installation, as well as several Russian experts.

(I’m thinking BLU-109, which is about a 2,000 pounder.)

Not only that, but Syria has the S-300P (SA-10 Grumble), and Israelis have beat it twice. Not good for future sales pitches...
