BURLINGTON, Vt. The battle over the right to bear arms is flaring in Vermont, where a local gun range has moved to prohibit the Burlington Police Department from training at its facilities after the City Council voted to advance a measure banning semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines.
The leadership of the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club explained that it's "difficult" for the club to support the city even its officers given the actions of the council.
In response, the Burlington Police Department released a statement saying: "It is unfortunate that this important and much-needed community dialogue regarding gun control currently under way in the City of Burlington and across the nation has resulted in this action."

Some years back my sleepy little town police tired of driving two miles to use our larger neighbors range. So they build a very nice indoor facility$$$. Basic lessons were offered to the taxpayers a few times and talk of open public time. Now taxpayers everywhere pay for a range and the all are under used and only by coppers who are on the clock.
Oh but they had to drive past a donut shop to get to the other range... and overtime$$$...
Around here every berg and bailiwick also has a municipal health club that is seldom used. Drive past Lifetime Fitness day or night and the lot is near full, my park district club, not at all.
It was unfortunate that the “much needed community dialogue” (who talks like that?!?) resulted in them being banned from the gun range, but not from weapons they probably use being banned for “civilians”? Did they send a letter like this to the city council?
Judging by your attitude on this issue, your screen name describes you perfectly - You’re very “Pro Government”. I think you’re definitely on the wrong forum. It seems like you’d be more at home over at DU.
You counsel cowardice.
I am actually pretty surprised that any FReeper would chose such a screen name!
The article was, as usual, poorly written. They haven't bannd them from using the facility. They've simply started charging them for their use. You know, like the rest of us proles. If the cops want to use they range they can bloody well pay for their time there.
Therein lies another rub; gov’t ‘permission’ to run a biz, let alone WHERE to run said biz.
If not now, where they can, WHEN do they make a stand??
