(Reuters) - France has ordered special forces to protect uranium sites run by state-owned Areva in Niger as the threat of attacks on its interests rises after its intervention against rebels in Mali, a military source said on Thursday.
...
Seven workers, including five French nationals, were kidnapped in Arlit by al Qaeda's north African arm AQIM in September 2010. It later released three of the hostages but four French citizens are still being held.
...
According to a parliamentary committee enquiring into France's supplies of uranium, about 18 percent of the raw material used to power France's 58 nuclear reactors came from Niger in 2008.

Areva was going to build a new facility here to do something with fuel rods, but after Fukashima the plug was pulled. Was hoping for thhem to come. Would have brought quite a bit of commerce to this area. Now all we can do is make vodka from the spuds and supply the Bud and Corona plants with malting barley.

Former ambassador. See "Rock Creek corporation." To be fair, "Joe Wilson" is a common name, so to make sure: 1. Do you mean the "Joe Wilson" who was married to a French diplomat for 12 years? 2. Do you mean the "Joe Wilson" who verified the Niger government was innocent of UN sanctions busting while he was also soliciting a gold mining concession from the same Niger government? 3. Do you mean the "Joe Wilson" who doesn't believe a French mining company based in Niger wouldn't sell uranium to Iraq? That "Joe Wilson?" I bet you do... 14 posted on 12/15/2003 1:26:58 PM PST by Shermy**
Sounds like the guy. Oh, by the way.... Joe's Rock Creek Corp is also well connected to Chuck Hagel, who Obama now wants to make SecDef.
