Sadly, what you predict is exactly what will happen. Remember, most people who want their sons to join the Scouts are upright religious people who don't want their sons introduced to the "gay lifestyle" and will refuse to let the boys join in the first place. The Church rode out the scandal because it offers eternal salvation; the Scouts, OTOH, only offer outdoor recreational opportunities, something that can readily be offered by lots of other organizations.
