Cats are one of the top threats to US wildlife, killing billions of animals each year, a study suggests.

The authors estimate they are responsible for the deaths of between 1.4 and 3.7 billion birds and 6.9-20.7 billion mammals annually.

Update:
In February 2012, The Australian reported that rabbits, rats and mice had been nearly eradicated from the island.[26]
By April 2012, the hunting teams had located and exterminated 13 rabbits still surviving since the baiting in 2011. The last five rabbits found were in November 2011, including a lactating doe and four kittens. No fresh rabbit sign has been found since. A fresh hunting team arrived on the island in April 2012 to continue the search for the last few survivors.

When liberals sob tears for the death of rats it's because when they study vermin they see themselves...and they look at conservatives as those higher up on the food chain.

Celebrate and release the Kitteh Within. Cats are not the problem. Demon Rats are the problem.

“Out at Ft Irwin, the crows decimate the desert torise population by pecking holes in their shells. We called them “soul chickens” and loved to go plinking for them.”

Don’t try to tell that to a Sierra Clubber! Their club has pushed to close the Mojave Desert to us dirt bike riders because they blame us for the decimation of the tortoises. That is why there is no Barstow to Vegas race anymore. Up in the Ridgecrest area it’s the ravens that are doing the damage. The crows stay in town and the ravens are mostly out farther.

Let's not forget that those "mammals" include pests such as mice and rats which means the cat is helping mankind. As for the "birds", they have a built-in advantage in that they can fly - cats can't - so those that are caught were not the swiftest in the flock (survival of the fittest, anyone?). Even though I am totally against letting pets wander outside, those that are strays STILL have to eat and plenty of these same prey animals get eaten by other birds (hawks, eagles, etc.) so it is NOT all the fault of the kittehs. Mine are well fed and STRICTLY indoors only. We do our part, I wish others did theirs as well.

All I know is that we have three barn cats who stay in the barn. The cats that get dropped off out here by silly city folk thinking that the country is some sort of paradise for their house cat? Yeah, I try to shoot them and so does everyone else in the house. Why? Because otherwise we get treated to hearing them get slaughtered at night by the coyotes, owls, and the occasional wolf.

No, I am not trapping them and taking them to the pound. The closest pound for us is in Utah, about 200 miles away.

WTF kind of moron releases a soft house cat into the wild just utterly eludes me.
