Iranian space officials announced Monday (Jan. 28) that they have successfully launched a live monkey into space, inching closer to the Islamic republic's goal of a manned mission, according to news reports.
The space capsule, called Pishgam, which means "pioneer" in Farsi, reportedly returned the monkey alive after a suborbital flight to space and back, according to Iranian news agencies.

This is very similar to what we did in 1949. Of course, we didn't have the luxury of looking up how to do it on the Internet.

” inching closer to the Islamic republic’s goal of a manned mission”
Odd. Who’s manning the controls when these clowns pray five times a day?

As I recall the first US suborbital flight with the monkey Ham riding in a Mercury capsule was in the early 1960s about a year before Alan Shepards suborbital flight Mercury 7 flight in May 1961.
I thought monkeys were considered unclean for Muslims.

Ah yes, they need to try a goat too. They will need one as an entertainment package aboard some future Islamic space station. But sadly there will be no PIGS IN SPACE!

Poor Monkey?
I think he is one Lucky Monkey.
To bad he did not have the awareness to realize how cool it would be to be in space.
You know why they don’t send Dogs into space?
They can’t stick their head out of the window. :)

It is a rhesus Monkey.
In addition to being popular for medical experiments, one of them became quite famous late last year

This is Iran, not the humane society. The monkey was probably launched successfully, but I doubt that ship had heat shields.
