Democrats, tea party unite vs. Mitch McConnell
Politico ^ | Jan 28, 2013 | Manu Raju

Tea party activists looking to oust Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a GOP primary may get some help from an unlikely source: Democrats.

Big Democratic donors, local liberal activists and a left-leaning super PAC in Kentucky are telling tea partiers that they are poised to throw financial and organizational support behind a right-wing candidate should one try to defeat the powerful GOP leader in a 2014 primary fight.

-snip-

Now, Paul is supporting McConnell’s reelection bid. And much to the chagrin of tea party activists looking for a McConnell primary challenger, Massie has emphatically said he won’t take on McConnell. The conservative congressman is even scheduled to be a featured guest at a McConnell fundraiser in February in Northern Kentucky.

And one of McConnell’s first moves in his campaign was to hire a trusted aide of the Paul family — Jesse Benton — to run his campaign.

Dems in KY are going all out to get Judd in this seat and they are baiting the Tea Party to do it.

The Tea Party needs to actually form a party and put up their own candidate. Going to Republicans for help is a waste of time. They all belong to the Fraternity.

Cross party alliances never work. Just look where there are open primaries.

Why worry about a Democrat getting elected. The Republicans do what the Democrats want anyway? McConnell is useless .

He is in Harry Reids pocket, sticks his head out once in a while for a breath of air, then goes back in it.

Since no republican will ever, ever, EVER! challenge or run up against the existing leadership, the only answer is to remove them from power so that new leadership MUST take their places.

McConnell has been nothing short of pitiful. And Cornyn, the current whip has been just as bad. Both are up for re-election in 2014 and both need to be removed.

If the democrats want to conspire to remove McConnell, so be it. It’s common in warfare and politics and political warfare to remove the leaders of the other side so they will flail and be easliy conquered. The thing is, our leaders are flailing as it is so their removal can only be an improvement. I welcome any help to do it.

If McConnell’s smart, he’d announce his retirement. But he’s not so he won’t.

Third parties elect Democrats. Reform the party within.

Also, be careful what you wish for.

It’s a trap.

If anyone does primary him and win, they need to understand common sense and not try to redefine the word “rape.”

Republicans elect democrats because the Stupid Party (R) is only good for running against itself. They pull out all the stops to cut down conservatives and run a cut throat campaign then when they face the dem challenger they fumble on the 1 yd line.

Screw a third party......just give me a second one. The Stupid Party is only good for getting dem nonsense passed under the guise of "bipartisanship," "compromise," and "compassionate conservatism." One in the same.

IMO the Republican party is beyond reform.

I hardly see any difference between democrats who push liberal ideas and republicans who fold up and give in to them.

Primary’ing an old RINO is always going to be a risk. Whoever you run against him is bound to be relatively inexperienced as a candidate, and is going to make mistakes, maybe put his foot in his mouth from time to time. And, running against the Dem, be at a disadvantage.

You have to make up your mind that punishing the RINO is worth the risk that you may be giving the seat to the Dem. I figure its worth it, if the old RINO winds up giving the Dems what they want anyway, but with a GOP seal of approval. (I get tired of Dems defending their policies by saying, hey, the Repubs voted for it too... and they did...)

But thats the risk. You have to be prepared to back the conservative even when the press goes into overdrive mocking them, and the trolls turn up on FR to do the same.

You make good points.

Real Conservatives are tired of wasting their time on GOP liberals. Wasting a vote on a GOP Liberal just means you are voting liberal.

The GOP will always run limp of center candidates as long as PhonyCons keep suckling GOP teat.

A third party conservative candidate is always better than a GOP Liberal

You are quite right! But when you go after an old RINO, do it with a completely vetted, rational candidate. No more Mourdoch’s, Akin’s, Angle’s or O’Donnell’s! The operation is to GET RID of a RINO and replace him/her with a crdible Conservative, not hand the seat over to a RAT!

Talk about a waste of time--your plan will set back conservatism years. Why would Democrats be willing to help? Because they know if they do, they'll pick up the seat.

It's time to start THINKING!!
