Amid a citywide crackdown to prevent restaurateurs from misleading consumers, San Francisco officials have released a list of 93 business owners who collected more money in employee health care surcharges in 2011 than they spent on health care for their workers.
The Chronicle obtained the list under a public records request after City Attorney Dennis Herrera announced Friday that he would be going after at least 50 San Francisco restaurants for allegedly charging diners extra fees to cover the cost of city-mandated health care for workers and then pocketing much of the money

Note to self - Don’t open a business in SF. Better let them starve.
...they want to play ball in SF, they deserve EXACTLY what they get.
While California as a whole is unfriendly to business, unless your business is in the entertainment field or a union, places like San Francisco and Santa Monica to name just two, really seem to screw employers.
GOOD.. voters in San Fransicko need to be PUNISHED....
and L.A. and Stockton and even San Diego.. especially Berkley and Oakland..
Comments are interesting. One in particular which states that restaurant owners were saving money so they can pay for Obamacare has by far the most negative reviews - thumbs down. Would suspect that most of these people are young and don’t require much in the way of medical care. Those that don’t want to pay the freight should just eat in another nearby city, it’s not like there are no restaurants in that part of the country. Or they might try a more novel approach, like eating at home.
In December, we went to dinner at a restaurant off Union Square in SF and when the bill came there was an additional 4% charge for “employer mandates”. There wasn’t any notification ahead of time about the additional charges that would be tacked onto the bill.
B@$t@rd$!!!!
P.S. They’ve also outlawed businesses giving people free bags for their purchases but you can buy them for $1.
I also avoid the East Bay (especially Berkely, where they were so evil and mean to USMC recruiters in their once-fair city.)
.
Berkely, of course = Berkeley
Drive south about ten miles to South San Francisco. It’s in San Mateo County, you won’t see the bullcrap rules and fees. Many fine restaurants there, including some really good Italian ones. Drive a little bit further to Burlingame, Millbrae and San Mateo, many more fine restaurants - without the crap and with plenty of parking.
Yes, just do what the commissars want without question.
You elected them - suffer, you idiots.
Sorry to hear that. I guess radical liberalism is creeping down there from SF. Point I'm making is that at least in SM county you can get reasonable parking right at the restaurant. In SF, you can't find parking anywhere close unless willing to shell out around $20 (or more). Many restaurants on the peninsula have their own free lots. Others have city parking lots within a half block that'll cost a buck or two (or less). We often dine in So.SF, Burlingame and Millbrae, very pleasant. Dining in San Francisco is now a nightmare. Can't stand the prices, crowds, lack of parking, charging for bags, etc.
