Well, a good question - a keffiyeh or as we called it, a Shemagh, is to protect the wearer from sun, sand storms, and wind - but will not protect the wearer from .50cal rds, Joint Direct Attack Munition, Guided Bomb Unit, or any other direct or indirect explosive, to include a suicide vest, if the wearer so chooses to accessorize his head gear.
