We had several kids die in school in the 50s and 60s ~ Charles Ferguson was my seat buddy on the bus ~ one day he ate something that triggered a fatal bout of asthma. Then the dwarf girl died from some sort of bowel obstruction. Steve Farmer died from anaphalectic shock. Another fellow whose name escapes me had a similar problem with a common medication.

Just because you weren't there or didn't know anybody doesn't mean it didn't happen!

Children were dying all the time from CF. They don't now.

Well how lucky was I! Sorry you seemed to live in such a terrible place! Out here in the wilds of California we often compare our youth experiences whenever THE VILLAGE imposes it’s better way upon us and we just can’t seem to come with any sad tales that compare to your childhood. Now here is where I get ruthless. Just cause it happened around you, doesn’t mean it’s widespread, maybe it’s just you! Live long, laugh often and don’t be so serious!
