Yeah, the USPS has chosen to shrink to practically just a junk mail carrier.
That was probably to be expected when they were opened to competition- it would be hopeless for a government agency to compete against a private business.

I just wish they’d charge half as much for junk mail as they do for letters, instead of only a third.

I couldn’t agree with you more! But that’s the way government operates. Give the businessman/campaign contributor a deal so he will “juice” your campaign for election, and let the taxpayers inadvertently pick up the tab. Here in CA the government is busy “upping fees” to businesses to avoid pissing off the voters. Examples: Elevator annual inspection fees, doubled. Water service fee for providing a fire sprinkler connection to the city water system, doubled ( even though unless my building burns down, I use no water and haven’t for twelve years). But it isn’t only the government, AT&T provides two phone lines for fire sprinkler supervision ( the alarm company calls daily to make sure the system in functional, rate has tripled this past year.
