Wages are low but that’s because the cost of living is low. I’ve read blogs about Americans who have moved to Poland and they said they have no problem living there. The only real obstacle is learning the language. I tried self-teaching it and after about 100-125 words I quit. It’s impossible if you don’t live there.

I’m older, and it’s tough for us old ducks to pick up new languages. I wonder if an instructor based course would make it easier? Local college, or some such thing?

Can’t be harder than Chinese?

Because of superpower politics and the principle of reciprocity, both the USA and Russia require of the citizens of the other country a visa to visit (cost about $200) and a limitation of about 3 months or maybe 6 months now (new rules came out a few months ago).

Having been there multiple times, I would highly recommend it, especially if you are a lover of high culture (classical music, ballet, opera, etc., etc.) and/or are a committed Christian who would like to see the restoration of Christian values happening after the dictatorship.

Given that, I would also recommend the Ukraine, Slovakia, and other nearby countries for the same humble, hospitable, down-to-earth people, especially if one goes with the expectation of learning from them about dealing with life instead of looking down on them.

"We live in Russia, not Sodom and Gomorrah," United Russia deputy Dmitry Sablin said before the 388-1 vote in the 450-seat chamber. "Russia is a thousands-years-old country founded on its own traditional values - the protection of which is dearer to me than even oil and gas."

DAMN In Russia traditions values YOU!

Less economc freedom in Columbia. Taxes all over, and about double Russias tax rates. and in some cases triple. They even have an honest to god Stamp tax. Like the one we rebelled against in the colonies. All official documents, and records used for anything have to have an official government tax stamp.

And then instead of being surrounded by hot Russian babydolls, you are surrounded by indian culture, Americans living a Che’ fantasy, women in funny shaped cowboy hats, and your ears are assaulted by that endless pan flute sounding music.

I’m a pretty simple guy. I have to have a reason before I look down on someone. I look down on:

American urban culture
muslims
Obama voters

I place high value on people who live life, not tweet and facebook and who knows what else all day. I hate what is happening to America and I would consider relocating for my retirement years, (in a few years). It’s not something I say lightly, and there are significant complications, but it kills me to see what goes on here, every stinking day.

It’s as if it’s a marriage gone bad. In my younger days, America was all I had ever hoped for. Sure, she had some issues, but everyone does. She was beautiful beyond compare, and always seemed to do something to amaze me. But, she developed a really, really bad habit, socialism. Socialism has made her ugly, intolerant, and unmotivated. She simply sucks the life force out of anyone who comes near her.

It may be time to find a new love.

Naw! You see in Russia or China you’d have to learn a whole new alphabet, but Polish has the same Latin letters. It actually isn’t all that difficult if you submerse yourself in the language. The grammar is comprehensible it’s just the pronunciation. For instance the Polish word for sorry: “przepraszam”. It’s actually pronounced “sha-preh-sham”. Those Slavic languages are crazy! I don’t think a college or instructor could ever teach me a language. It’d just bore me to death. If you wanna learn a language, you gotta submerse yourself in it. Languages have always interested me. There’s your little lesson on Polski :P

I live near Cleveland, Ohio. Very strong Polish American contingent there. The surnames are something else. For example:

Mike Krzyzewski - sha-SHEV-ski

How you get sha-SHEV-ski out of that is beyond me.

I’m not joking when I say I’d seriously consider researching life in Russia.

13% flat tax.

“13% flat tax.”

Sounds better all the time!

That will never happen in America. There are only two ways a flat tax would happen in America:

1 - Total economic and political collapse causing a reconstitution of the government.

2 - Someone figures out a magical way to decouple corporate interests from the government.

Just sneak across their border, sign up for all the welfare bennies and demand that everything be in English.

I'm going to stick it out to the bitter end. I want my chance to kill as many as these anti-americans as I can when the time comes. I owe that to the founding fathers.
