Could you or someone explain to me what it means, this 3-d printer thing?

3-D printers build up solid objects. Fully functional parts of any arbitrary shape.

Not just in plastic, the palette of available materials includes a bunch of plastics, rubbers, waxes (good for lost wax casting of jewelry and precision parts) plaster, sugar, paper, and a bunch of metals including anything from aluminum to titanium to steels to zinc.

Yes, please do so I can learn more. Thanks everyone for the definitions. Sounds like a fascinating field of interest with some really major potential, hi-tech at its best.
