Just a couple minutes ago, presidential advisor Valerie Jarrett, who is personally close to President Barack Obama, tweeted, that "If there's one thing we should all agree on, it's protecting women from violence."
Jarrett's tweet comes the same hour Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced that the Obama administration would allow women to serve in combat. The AP reports:
Senior defense officials say Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is removing the military's ban on women serving in combat, opening hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war.
The groundbreaking move recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff overturns a 1994 rule banning women from being assigned to smaller ground combat units. Panetta's decision gives the military services until January 2016 to seek special exceptions if they believe any positions must remain closed to women.
So will women now have to register for the draft when they turn 18 like the rest of us.
Insanity.
Male babies are violently aborted also.
Yea. The hypocrisy, absurdity and contradiction abound. These babbling idiots are completely blind to the real violence of their evil ways.
Valerie Jarrett talking about violence against women? And she works for a muslim? How ironic is that?
This is just plain crazy. The Marines tried to let two women into officer basic and the both quit or flunked. 110 lb. women just will not replace 180 men on the front lines. There are some things they can do, but when things get really ugly and physical..they just won’t carry their weight.
No wonder they have been firing senior officers. They needed to get the right PC crowd to announce this.
As for the Seals and others. Females just won’t put up with the crap to qualify..unless they are given waivers.
I am a female vet. I am just so thrilled to know that my daughters have just as much right to get blow away in combat as my son! Actually none of the female vets I know think this is a good idea. There are lots of things females can do, and some they do better then their male counterparts, but combat just is not one of them! Yes there are some females that can take on and beat some males, but in general the guys are stronger. I have absolutely no desire to go into combat and cause some valiant man to get killed trying to protect me. And by the way I pray every day that my Son comes home, intact, from his current tour in Afghanistan.
Don’t let women own guns with more than 7 rounds, but put them in combat. Yes, I can certainly see how that would protect women from violence/sarcasm
There goes unit cohesion!
Seriously, who thinks this is a good idea? Are there any women lining up to go infantry? Seeing the way Liberals do things, they will probably lower standards to except more women, just so they can pat themselves on the back.
I agree with your points and certainly defer to your experience. And I, too, will pray for your sonn’s safe return. Godspeed.
Prayers for your son’s safe return. Mother of Marine(Son) and National Guardsman (daughter)who both served in Iraqi Freedom and were deployd at the same time.
The enemy will target the women, abuse, rape, torture them, which in effect, take a toll on our Male Soldiers. Not in favor of women serving in combat.
just to get the college bennies.
not that they’ll actually ever get sent.
they’ll do C-130 ‘touch and goes’ (’under sniper fire, no doubt) in the rear of theater of operations so they can say they set foot in a hostile AO to get a CIB and feel good.
And send them right to the front of combat. There is no violence there. /sarcasm
It doesn't seem to have become an issue yet on FreeRepublic but, in my never-to-be-humble opinion, the military is lost to us. It is just the latest institution to have been taken over by the left.
Oh, it's still the greatest military on earth and most of its members will do whatever it takes to win. But the politically-correct left is in control now.
It dawned on me finally after the Fort Hood shooting where we learned how Hassan had been promoted because of his Muslim religion despite the repeated concerns of his supervisors.
Now we have women on aircraft carriers, women on submarines, women on the front lines, and gays, whom I never thought would be bad soldiers if treated like everyone else, being catered to by a politically-correct, craven brass.
Folks, the military is perilously close to being destroyed.
