That ‘hapless guy at Costco’ was a real tragedy.
Serves to remind people, how wrong it could get with ‘ignorant but enthusiastic’ public (in this case one Costco employee), mega-MIS-information from Costco management, and ‘government authority’ with guns.

I've lived in Las Vegas for 37+ years. I followed the story. The guy was higher than a kite on drugs and acting erratically.
