we lost the capital in the war of 1812 and were so pathetic in that war it was laughable, except for some frigate actions where our 44+ gun frigates beat up a bunch of british 28 gun frigates

Then there was that whole Battle of New Orleans. It's a shame that occured after the treaty had been signed. Could have got a better deal.

Yeah... we did win there, but I’m not sure it makes up for the disaster that was the campaign to invade Canada.
