Doubtful. Yearly revenues from illegal drug exports to the US were estimated at around $14B.¹ For comparison, Mexico's oil exports in 2010 totaled around $36B.²

Both the Mexican government and the cartels will see to it that illegal drugs keep coming. They can't afford not to.

Both the Mexican government and the cartels will see to it that illegal drugs keep coming. They can't afford not to.

Demand will always result in supply; either the current cartels will wise up and dial back the violence, or they'll be supplanted by wiser suppliers.

Of course, there wouldn't be billions in profit to be had if not for the War On Drugs. Just sayin' ...
