Plenty of taratulas, you are just not living south enough.....but they do not crawl up on you and bite you in your sleep.

They usually bite you when you are awake

I've never been biten by one but have had a few jump at me to scare me away to leave them alone, it worked. Haven't seen many taratulas or horned toads since the fire-ants moved in.

If you ever see me suddenly zigzagging on the road, it's because I'm trying to hit a tarantula or a snake. Squealing breaks and backing up is definitely a snake.
