I know it’s kind of weird but, in a way, Austin lends Texas credibility. People can’t say Texas is the way it is because of lack of dissenting voices. It’s like the Republicans in the US Congress, they don’t really have any say, just gives the illusion of opposition. The goofballs in Austin obviously don’t have much say in state politics.
It’s easy for me to think of them in the abstract because I don’t have to live with them. Austin is the prettiest of your big cities though.

Really? I live here and I think San Antonio is much better. Austin is ok, unless you want to actually carry your groceries in plastic bags.
