Lots of wealthy Italians and Irish in SF. I worked for one who bankrolled all the tennis courts at USF.
I may be somewhat in error. The mission was founded in 1776, and the original sanctuary, made from logs, was the first building in “the City.” The building in the photo was built in 1791—and is still older than most, if not all, of the surrounding buildings.
