A few days ago, I checked with a half-dozen Washington-area hotels, ranging from the luxe Willard Intercontinental to the not-so-luxe Hampton Inn, and found that all had rooms available for this weekends Obama inauguration festivities. That was a huge change from Obamas first inauguration, in January 2009, when nearly all the areas hotel rooms were sold out.
On Saturday, as Obama supporters arrived for the Monday ceremony, I checked with those hotels again. I asked if they had a room available for arrival on Saturday, staying three nights and departing on Tuesday, January 22. All still have rooms available.
Earlier this week, downtowns Grand Hyatt had standard guest rooms available for $499 a night. They still do.

Two young black men, that my son knew, came into the pharmacy today and talked about leaving for the festivities in Washington. They would be attending events tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday, all expenses paid, by the DNC. One young man laughed and said, “We didn’t even vote for Obama this time, because of his stance on gays.”
The Dems will fill the seats.
Are you talking about the trench at the end of Boone in Cody Park? If so, that was dug to keep non POA people from sneaking into the park.
