“Just what bankrupt Amtrak needs. Another reason not to take the train.”
Yeah, I decided to try Amtrak from Oakland to Los Angeles last year just to see what it was like. While the train was comfortable, I don’t have TWELVE HOURS in my life to expend getting from the Bay Area to LA! It’s nearly always slow (top speed is limited to 79 mph which is almost never). It has to stop to let every freight train go by because Amtrak “rents” the rails from the freight hauling railroads. It’s just a disgrace that anything could be that bad from the standpoint of getting you from one place to another! I guess the only “plus” is that it’s a boon for minority employment!

A nice trip, if you have all that time to kill, plus don't mind arriving in Los Angeles at 2:00 a.m.!
