Reduce access to high-powered rounds of ammunition. Who defines "high-powered"?
I am beyond p!$$ed about this.
Here is the letter I just sent to my rep and senator in MA:
Greetings,
I am a constituent of yours and reside in XXXXXXX, MA.
I have read Governor Deval Patrick's new proposal to further infringe on the rights of legal gun owners in Massachusetts;
"An Act To Strengthen and Enhance Firearms Laws in the Commonwealth"
There are a number of outrageous flaws and proposals in this legislation that the Governor has introduced.
Not the least of which is the proposal to limit ALL ammunition magazines to seven rounds.
Additionally it requires that owners of ten round magazines sell or dispose of them within a year after enactment.
This begs the question; To whom am I going to sell these magazines? They would be illegal to own.
I will not dispose of them unless Governor Patrick agrees to reimburse me for their cost.
I am writing you to state that I vehemently oppose this new proposal and ask that you vote against any such measure as introduced to the Legislature.
Massachusetts already has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation and none of them have done anything more than punish those who legally purchase and use firearms for sport, recreation and our God given right of self defense.
For Governor Patrick to introduce these measures to further criminalize and punish legal gun owners in Massachusetts is beyond unbearable.
It will do NOTHING to curb gun violence by those who have no regard for the rule of law in the first place.
It is also an atrocious insult to the citizens of this Commonwealth.
I am a 30 year resident of XXXXXXX, a long time member of the local Pistol and Rifle Club, an active member of GOAL and the NRA.
I have a great many friends and colleagues who feel as I do and are paying close attention to this latest assault on our constitutionally protected rights.
As such, I implore you to please oppose this particular legislation and any such future proposals
