I’ve tried pushing the clips through the guide above the port.

Wiggle the brass side to side to loosen it up in the clip wiggle them a bit when you push them in. It is still not easy. I got a scope over mine so I have to load the magazines by hand.

I got a weak thumb.

I’ve done it using the breakdown tool bit it’s faster to drop the mag and insert another...for me.
