Friday already! Yoi!
Have to stop for gas on the way home...durn.
Four-day weekend fer me! w00t! Lots of cleaning and organizing to do with shelves Wonderful Brother built for me. :o)
BTW, I’ve been meaning to ask you and keep forgetting... What brand of pressure canner did you get?
Good morning Ladysmith. West Point infiltrated...no surprise there.
Americans hostages possibly killed in Algeria. Where’s BO?
Lord help us!
My day off today. As soon as mrs p6 is up and moving I’m making an Irish lamb stew in the slow cooker. Just scrubbed some potatoes but I don’t want to make noise while mrs p6 is still sleeping.
Speaking of which - a gallon of gas is CHEAPER than a gallon of milk. I paid $4.00 yesterday for a gallon of milk. Gasoline around here is $3.59. I know, milk has been more expensive for awhile, but hadn’t yet reached $4.00!
Long weekend for me and Mr S too! yay! I like MLK day because you don’t have to DO anything - no visiting family, no special celebrations etc! I can stay home and get stuff done! Basically, it’s a blow-off day!
I have a Presto pressure canner. Haven’t used it yet. It’s the larger one of the two sizes Walmart sells. Some people use it for water bath canning as well as pressure canning because it’s higher than the normal water bath canner. My water bath canner always boils over. It’s actually put the flame out and I get gas. (did I really say that??? lolol!!!!)
I MEAN that natural gas........Oh, you know what I mean!!!
;-)
Anyway, it’s also a pressure cooker.
That sounds good. I was thinking of hot beefs in the crockpot, too, and the homemade buns. Something that’ll last through the weekend.
What isn’t infiltrated in this country? WROL is here.
Boy, am I ready to listen again? We still have Jimmy Carter Redux going on and stuck with it for another four years. ugh... When is this country going to wake up? Prayers up for our own in Algeria.
I had a shock earlier this week when mrs p6 asked me to make spaghetti for dinner. I needed a pound of ground meat.
The smallest pack the store had was 3 lbs at almost $12! It was the cheapest they had with the exception of some in the 5 items for $20 bin.
When I bought that before it wasn’t very good so I wad stuck with the 3lb pack.
Oh!! Sweet! No kidding, all four days to do what we want! Still trying to remember Christmas and New Years. Between the shelves collapsing and being sick, I just have no memories of Christmas for 2012.
LOL on the gas. What are you planning on trying first? I did chicken recently, going to start watching for raw corn beef and try that. Also any sales on other beef to try out.
The cheap meat is just that, isn’t it? The dark chicken meat I got was cheap, I thought I was getting a heck of a deal. Geez, loads of fat on them that had to be trimmed off. Wasn’t worth the savings.
We got a good deal on chicken thighs. Lots of skin. We thought we were getting a lot. However, we have the “Larry the Cable Guy” fried chicken coating. That is the BEST STUFF! I normally don’t like the skins, but they were totally crispy and tasty. Mr S does the chicken frying. He always fries it in a bit of LouAna coconut oil.
I have never done pressure canning. We might start with chicken soup first. That’s what Mr S was wanting to try. When I get more sure of myself, I’ll try meats. I’ll admit that I’m nervous.
Peeling potatos while listening. Colin Powell is a huge disappointment!
Larry the Cable Guy coating? Where do you get that recipe? I’d like to try that!
We are stocked up on meats right now. Sister and her hubby do butchering and sent us a lot. Last shopping trip, we concentrated on other stuff like veggies and other stuff. I have been making my own bread in the bread machine. It definitely saves money. Tried rye bread last night. Woke up to a ‘lump’. I don’t know if I mis measured or my yeast was bad.
Anyway, change of subject; I lost my ID badge for work and had to go up to the sheriff’s office to get a new one. The lady there told me I’d have to wait because they were INUNDATED WITH REQUESTS FOR GUN PERMITS! Woohoo! :-))
I hear ya on the nervousness. After the first or second try, I wasn’t nearly as nervous. But there’s no question, trying to make sure everything is emaculate and clean, and doing the process the way it has to be done, I’m still very mindful of that. Always looking to improve organizing and all.
Going to take a look and see if I can find anything on canning chicken soup.
We get it at Big Lots. He’s got his own line of country-style foods. We haven’t tried anything else. I’ll have to stop at Big Lots after work and see what else there is. My inlaws bought the fried-chicken mix too and love it.
Snow plow just went by. We didn’t get much, and it isn’t snowing now, but every once in awhile, the wind really kicks up!

Noreen is one of those well-known and trusted canners. :o) Haven’t watched it yet, going to now. LOL
Good! Glad to hear people are arming up! The shelves are emptying again of ammo. I’ve been trying to find .22 shorts for a small pistol I have, just can’t find any. grrrr!...
I’m definitely going to check out that link! Thanks!
I’m running late again. I’ll be back on later!
