WASHINGTON (KABC) -- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was in the national spotlight Monday calling for federal immigration reform.
With so many priorities in Washington D.C. right now, the mayor said he doesn't want this issue to fall off the radar screen.
Villaraigosa spoke at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., and called repairing the nation's broken immigration system an economic imperative. He wants a pathway to citizenship as the core of any reforms.
"No human being is illegal. No human being should be illegal. We must enshrine this principle into the heart and soul of this country's immigration policy. That is our moral imperative," said Villaraigosa.

U.S. Secret Service and McAllen police arrested Jose Luis Cardenas and Pedro Torres over the weekend.
The two Monterrey men are allegedly part of a ring that stole Banamex and Banorte bank account numbers, created cloned debit cards and used them to withdraw money at ATMs..
The high withdrawal rate raised a red flag for the bank, but McAllen police said the suspects didn't realize they left a trial of clues behind.
McAllen investigators reviewed surveillance video which led them to their vehicle, which was spotted on the City of McAllen's high-tech video camera system placed strategically across the city.
A detective on the team spotted the vehicle which lead them to a McAllen motel where the suspects were staying.
Police said inside the hotel they seized hundreds of fake ATM cards, a machine to clone cards and an estimated $260,000 dollars in stolen cash the suspects had withdrawn from the bank,But as they do, we must provide them a meaningful path forward to become full members of American society http://www.valleycentral.com/news/story.aspx?list=195019&id=849153
Don’t like the use of illegal then how about criminal? Psst, there are legal/noncriminal ways to gain US citizenship already on the books.
aren’t something like 40% of prisoners in CA and TX Mexican nationals?
how about we provide them a meaningful path forward to become full members of the MEXICO’S prisoner society?
Mr. MAYOR!!! SO we can not park without putting money in the meter? We can steal something from a super market if we want it? We can break in and get something from someone’s home if we need it? NOTHING is ILLEGAL??? WOOOO HOOOOOO!!! PARTY TIME LOS ANGELENOS!!!!!! NOT!
YOUR NUTSO Mr. MAYOR... being here ILLEGALLY is ILLEGAL!
What a vapid moron. How did we get to a point where a mayor of a major American city is more a foreigner than he is an American.
Yes.. we need them legalized so they can populate our prisons even more.
“arent something like 40% of prisoners in CA and TX Mexican nationals?”
I thought you were talking about the population of L.A. lol. He’s our imbecile and racist mayor. If the feds had any balls, most of the workers in the fabric district are illegals and they would get them all in 1 shot.
This should have set off some alarms since the Republic of Ragusa was one of the few places where Roma (gypsies) were successful in achieving full citizenship since they'd left India ahead of the Moslem invasions. There they constituted the military caste which had a degree of respect in those days ~ they were also organized as a tributary to the Ottoman Empire.
The mayor of LA is telling us, in his name, that he's the authentic Vlaach Gypsy who's here to steal all your stuff if you let him play on your greed.
I don't trust him.
Trying to re-frame the argument again. Never accept the liberals premise. Never!
Of course, they subsequently split, but he had become known by that name, so retained it.
A true whore and likely a male b!tch.
Same way we got the white hut settled. MORONS are allowed to vote.
Villaraigosa, I bet will end up being on Team Obama.
Life with the gypsies was freedom of course, so they'd be going down the road and they'd sell the black man as a cheap slave to a farmer. That evening they'd slip back and liberate him to continue on down the road.
The ratio of Asians to Hispanics coming into California is now about 2:1.
