Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think that is only new production sales. I have 3 unopened spam cans of the stuff in .308, that's 1620 rounds if I'm remembering correctly. It's buried in a pile I'm not to enthusiastic about digging through, but I known it's in there somewhere... I just haven't seen it in a couple of decades.

I don’t own an assault weapon. Maybe a few thousand Americans own actual assault weapons. But the bad guys do, and that creates a need for the good guys to match them.
If we could just get the gangs, the drug traders, the government alphabet agencies, the Chinese and the Muslims to discard their automatic weapons, we wouldn’t need all this citizen firepower.

The “don’t need” argument is quite a mixture of ignorance and effrontery.
The notion that “I can’t think of a legitimate reason to own a semi-automatic firearm, therefore no such reason exists” is grotesquely illogical.
The notion that “I have a right to have my preferences and beliefs about other people’s needs—even the needs of people I don’t know—imposed upon all people by force” is arrogance at its worst.
I wonder if somebody can fact-check that. It seems that every friggin' anti-gunner in the country is a "lifelong hunter". It's a wonder that there are any game animals left alive in this country.
I agree. The country has already divided into producers and takers. A conflict appears to be inevitable.

When the administration moves on to banning SUVs again, panetta will be referring to them as “assault vehicles.”
It’s very offensive, that the Sec. of Defense would take a position against the Bill of Rights, while talking to our troops. Panetta should be fired immediately.
I would need them if the bad guys were wearing armor.
Every tool has its purpose. I buy tools either because I need to do what they can do OR because I think they are cool.

Probably because of either the astounding ignorance of public officials or because our government has been taken over by G*D* commies.
Why does DHS need 1.6 billion rounds of critical defense ammo? I think that answers Panetta’s question.
